The Patriot

~Winter's pov~

"How did the shooter get close enough?" I asked Talbot.

"What's going on?" Simmons asked, walking towards us.

"There was an assassination attempt on Director Mace" Talbot told her.

"What? Is he-"

"He's fine" I replied "Coulson, Mack and Hunter are following protocol, taking him to a safe house. What do we know about this guy Daisy grabbed? Who's he working for?"

"Would you stop hounding me with questions? Get in there and ask him yourself, I need you in the interrogation room. I don't trust Little Miss Richter Scale to handle it herself" Talbot answered.

"I take orders from the Director, not you" I snapped.

"Winter's right" Simmons said to him. "Maybe we should check with Director Mace"

"Well, he's not gonna get here in time, so I'm taking the reins and here's how it's gonna go down" Talbot responded "You..." turning to me "get Lee Harvey whatever to talk. You..." turning back to Simmons "Find out if Burrows was on the Quinjet"

"Excuse me?" Simmons asked him.

"And you...hey! With the hair" Pointing to one of the agents "Get me a coffee, and don't forget the French vanilla creamer this time. Agent Blood" turning to me again. "with the possible exception of my mother, you are the single most intimidating woman I have ever met, we need answers, you can get them"

~Time Skip~

"How do you lose a damn Quinjet?" Daisy asked me.

"Simmons, tell me they're alive" I said, walking towards her.

"I don't know. We lost contact approximately seven minutes ago" Simmons told us.

"Zaikin said he wasn't alone" Daisy answered. "This must be Phase Two"

"Then we may need more than the standard rescue team" Simmons said walking into the Director office "General, have we made contact?"

"They just dropped off the map...No signal, no emergency beacon, nothing" Talbot replied.

"It could be an equipment malfunction" Daisy suggested.

"When have we ever been that lucky?" Talbot asked "If we want our team back, we're gonna have to act fast"

"Daisy and I can take point on the rescue mission" I answered "Coulson would want me to take command of Zephyr One. Simmons, I need expanded clearance to do that"

"I'll take care of that" Talbot said grabbing the tablet "I'll make you...DayGlo pink, or whatever's high enough"

"If we find them, they won't be alone. Zaikin had partners" Daisy said.

"I'm the highest-ranking agent here, and contingency protocols grant me greater access if the Director is missing in action" Simmons told him.

"I know that. I wrote the damn protocols. Besides, I have an assignment for you"

"But I could look through Mace's file for any leads, if we've overlooked any enemies he might have-"

"I'll handle this. I'm gonna squeeze our prisoner, like a lime wedge on dollar beer night" I sighed "Now, find me some science-y way to regain contact with our men on the ground"

"But we-" Simmons tried. Hail to the Chief played play from Talbot pocket.

"You all have jobs to do" He told us "If you'll excuse me, I need to update the leader of the free world" and he nodded to the door and we walked out.

...

I gasped awake, I looked around the room. I quickly pulled the head set off and pulled the tube from my nose and pulled the rest of the crap off of me. I stumbled out of the small room I was in. Aida walked in and walked towards me.

She put her hand around my neck and pushed me against the wall, choking me "Aida, no!" Radcliffe yelled.

"I knew it wasn't real" I choked out.

"Aida, don't kill her!" Radcliffe exclaimed and ran towards me with a syringe, I managed to kick him sending him backwards "The syringe, Aida. we have to sedate her" Aida let go of me, I dropped to the floor.

"You bastard" I said to Radcliffe, I managed to get up, I let to kick him but Aida grabbed my leg and injected the syringe into me.

I was sat in the cargo hold fiding with my necklace Hunter got for me, I heard someone walk in "Hey" Daisy said, I glanced up to look at her "Wanted to let you know we're a few minutes out from the crash site" I didn't say anything "We're gonna find them, you know"

"I know" I sighed "I just can't shake this feeling, something's off"

"Off how?" She asked "With the mission or between you and Hunter...did you get into a fight?"

"No, no" I answered.

"Agent Blood!" Davis said rushing into the cargo hold, I stood up "We've reached the crash site, but we scanned for 100 square miles and there's no Quinjet. Someone must have hijacked the transponder signal"

"So where the hell are they?" I asked and walked out the room.

~Time Skip~

"Zaikin admitted to being hired by the Watchdogs" Simmons told us.

"Their plan was to take down the Quinjet in rural West Virginia" Fitz finished.

"We weren't even searching in the right state" I answered.

"The comms are still jammed, but at least we've narrowed down the search area" Fitz replied.

"Well, hopefully Mace can hold these guys off until we find them" Daisy said, I nodded.

"Yeah..." Fitz started "Um, I'm not to sure about that" me and Daisy shared a look.

~Time Skip~

"I'm gonna make this hurt!" I heard a man yelled, I ran into the building and grabbed a shovel and hit him on the head with it, he grunted and moved away from Hunter.

"It's about bloody time" Hunter told me, we started attacking the guy, he knocked me backwards and I felt something stab my shoulder, Hunter grabbed his arm knocking his weapon out his hand. I quickly got up and punched him in the face. "You all right?"

"Yeah. Fine" I answered.

"All right. Let's get the hell out of here" Hunter said.

~Time Skip~

I opened my locker, my shoulder was killing me, I carefully took my jacket off. I looked at my back in the mirror looking at the cut, I saw metal or something, I carefully pulled back a bit of the skin revealing more metal, I heard the door open, I moved my hand away and turned to see who it was.

"Hey, you need help with that?" Daisy asked.

"Uh, no, it's uh...it's just a scratch" I answered.

"Um, Coulson's gathering everyone in the Director's office" She told me, I nodded.

"I'll see you in there"

"Are you sure you're ok?" She asked.

"Never better" I lied, she nodded and walked out.
