People always say that the world is small. That at one point in your lifetime, you might have already brushed skins with your future partner or you might have been on the same place looking at the same thing at the same time without both of you knowing. They find it magical how encouters like this happen.
I don't like it.
I mean, it was a miracle that the person who bought my old house when I was living there alone turned out to be my cousin, who would eventually change my whole life. And maybe it was some work of good fate that I get to live beside the world's kindest family who took care of me when I was by myself, the Winters.
But come on...
I did not just take up a job, leave my home for 2 months, fly 16 hours to help myself forget about a certain person, try to move on and a start anew, only for that person to be in the same place as me again. That is just messed up.
"Do you want to change hotels?" Aaron never left my side at all since we saw Gray by the reception. He had volunteered to walk me all the way up to my room on the 9th floor even if he was going to be staying at the 7th. Because the hallways of the hotel was airconditioned, he had put his trench coat back on allowing his other hand to pull my carry on trolly. We both got in to the lift and he pressed 9. We left the group first even before Gray finished his introduction. The director gave us a glare thinking we might have been disrespectful.
"Like it's that easy to change hotels for 2 months. Staff are going to need to come with me. I'm going to need to provide a decent reason why I'm rejecting a 5 star hotel. I'm not really keen on sharing my life story." I leaned on the mirror, hiding my fidgety hands behind my back. It's not like he's going to be following us around. He just owns the goddamn place. Maybe he will be in his office most of the time. Sure, maybe I'll bump into him once or twice but I think I'll be able to handle that.
"I'll go with you" he said. He turned around to look at me. His eyes were serious. "Let's just say we saw some cackroaches one of our rooms".
I gave out a small laugh. I carried myself up and stood beside him giving him a gentle pat on his shoulder as a sign of thank you.
The lift stopped at the 9th floor and we both got out. We were walking past the other rooms which I believe belonged to our other staff until we found my room. My bags were already right in front of my door. I got my card key out and opened the door. I was welcomed with a gush of fresh air coming from the opened balcony door just accross the room.
Before our trip, we were asked if we had any room preferences. I wanted a single room, a small one but I want it to have an open balcony with the ocean view. Alec told me to get a room where everyone can immediately hear me if I ever scream in the middle of the night. We both got what we asked for. I immediately walked towards the balcony and breathed in some fresh air. It was such a beautiful view. People were laughing by the beach, playing. The sun was just starting to set from the horizon, I can see some other islands from afar. Everything was breathtaking. Ah, if only we came here for vacation and not work.
"Bet you won't see any cackroaches anywhere here." I turned around only to see that Aaron had already taken my luggages inside the closet and had already slumped himself into my bed. His arm was covering his eyes as if he was trying to actually take a nap. I glared at him. "I don't recall us being close enough for you to lie on my bed"
"Ahh, my heart" his other hand reached for his chest, feigning hurt. I rolled my eyes. I opened the mini fridge and took some cold water from it. Slowly, I made my way to Aaron and placed the cold water on his neck. He jumped in surprise. "I was 3 seconds away from actually falling asleep."
He sighed. I chuckled. "You know, it is not very nice for a boy and a girl to be seen in a hotel room alone." I had sat myself down on the couch. Aaron had already started moving all around the room, by the television to the headboard of the bed as well as the fridge as if trying to look for something. "Especially not actors. What would your staff say to you if they find you here?" I asked.
