•SALOME ALAN•

“Last card...” I wiggle the card in my hand, a wide grin plastered on my face as I watch my aunt's face fall in doom. “And...”
“Wait!” She palm stop me, rubbing her forehead while staring intently at her cards like she has any other option. I've already won!
“And...” I drawl again, raising my last card so high, before slamming on the pile of already played cards. “Jackpot!” I squeal, laughing loudly.
“Ah, shit!” Aunt Jenny spread her cards on the dinning table, twisting her mouth around. “But wait, Salome, this is the first time you've won me, should we call it coincidence or what?” She raise a curious brow while I try to stop myself from laughing.
It's Saturday, and when she came to my room complaining about been bored, I decided that we play cards. As usual, the bright late morning sun spills through the half open curtains in the living room, sharply directing to where we were seated in the dinning.
“Uh... I think?” My shoulders quiver as I shrug, still giggling at her facial expressions. She hum softly, biting her lower lip like some investigative officer.
“Tell me, you practiced in my absence, right? If not we both know I always win.” She begin to pack the scattered cards on the smooth brown table, then her eyes light up suddenly. “Oh wait, is something happening today? Cause you look lively as hell too, and that thing must be huge for it to be the reason you flushed me today, tell me quickly, what is it?” She fold her arms on the table, staring at me.
I burst out laughing again, holding my belly. The only sound is my loud laughter, and my aunt doesn't even look a bit fazed. She still keep a straight face, waiting.
“Okay, okay, thing is,” I lick my lips, swallowing the ball of saliva in my mouth. “Today is...”
“Is...”
I shut my eyes, squealing inwardly. “Today is Mr. Alex's convocation!” I finally burst out, smiling so hard my cheeks hurt. Not like I care.
Aunt Jenny's eyes widen comically, then she clap her hands dramatically. “No wonder! I knew I sensed something nice, something big enough to make you wash me, so that's why you're so restless, huh?”
I open my mouth to say nothing, but just nod with pursed lips. I'm too excited to even talk.
“Hmm... such a good student, eh?” She pack the cards into the cute small cartoon, glancing at me.
“Well...” I smack my lips, resting my back against my seat as I stare up at the white ceiling, golden chandelier glistening down at me. “I guess I'm a good student who also wants the best for her teacher too.” I say in a low voice, reminiscing Mr. Alex's words.
My brows furrow as I recall what my teachers were saying in the staffroom, about him leaving once he graduates. I seat up, heaving a sigh.
”Aunt Jenny?”
“Yep?” She look up from her phone, quickly swiping away what I didn't even see.
“Uh,” I fiddle my hands, thinking of how to put it. “How do you know when you... like someone,” It came out more like a statement than a question.
