Walking down the street to where the examination takes place, Shimmer wasted no time to prepare for the most important exam in her life and be there early.

Wearing blue skinny jeans and a white collard long sleeved shirt, she looked very simple with her hair pinned and pulled back in a mid ponytail, painting her plump lips with a light rosy pink lipstick adding color to her already pink lips.

Shim. That's what her friends call her, doesn't like to wear make up. Not that she know how to apply it on her face, that's far from it, but also to not look like a clown trying to make everybody laugh at her, no.

She liked the way she was.

Plain and simple.

Standing now on the side of the road where the first pedestrian line was. Shimmer awaits for the traffic lights to turn to green to cross the roads safely while observing the people around her. People who were frantically glancing at their watches every so often to check the time, glaring and hurrying the traffic lights in their heads to turn to green for them to get across. Afraid that they might get late for work or to where they're going.
Some people holding grocery bags, holding hands with their partners, others were holding their phones to their ears, talking, frowning, brows creasing, some were smiling and laughing. Turning her gaze away, she looked up to the countdown up ahead. Shimmer looked across to the buildings lined with different food stalls, stores, and shops on the sidewalks. Mentally noting to go window-shop after.

People walked here and there, buying or looking for something they liked.

There were also cafes, restaurants and inns.

Shimmer looked around again and started to move forward when she noticed that many people had already on the other side of the road, she was one of the few people standing there who was left behind.

Shaking her head, she crossed.
Once on the safety of the sidewalk again, away from the speeding cars and vehicles, she can't help but think of the place where she lived before she went away.

She missed the quietness.
The fresh air and birds singing, flapping their wings and falling in her room after bumping on the roof.

She found it silly.

Maybe that bird was just practicing how to fly? She let out a soft chuckle shaking her head. Looking ahead of the street, she passed a coffee shop and made a mental note to go and try their coffee later.

She could've called a taxi or a jeep to ride on but she prefers to walk to learn the way around the city, doll shoes really helped simple people like her walk conveniently faster, all the while recording on her mind everything she sees and admiring it through her framed eyes.

She looked like a geek wearing outdated square thick black rimmed eyeglasses.

Since high school her eyes failed her and let her suffer for years. All the dizziness, blurriness and headaches that came for being near-sighted was stopped when she got to know Shiela. The latter was one of her classmates who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She later got Shimmer to agree to be her working student and a sort of tutor for her.. did her assignments and projects, let her copy during exams..

Not that Shimmer liked it but did she really have a choice after being saved half her tuition fees and bought her a pair of eyeglasses?
