Shimmer found solace in the silence of the night, especially now that she was in her home town where busy and crowded streets was an afterthought, only the soft sound drizzle bouncing on the roof and on the leaves of the plants outside her house.

It was the right time to clear her mind when it was in chaos and most especially the time for her to write a song or read a book.

But she wasn't doing any of that tonight.

Wearing a sleeping pants and an oversized shirt, she leaned back folding her knees to her chest and rest her elbows on it.

After the revelation she heard from her child, she had locked herself upstairs and wasn't talking to anyone yet, except Zeke who insisted on giving her company. He was sitting on the chair across from her typing seriously on his laptop that rests on the table. Probably working since they haven't ventured out yet.

It was early in the evening and everyone is downstairs. Her mother was preparing the food for dinner while her brothers took care of the kids. Play with them and doing their assignments

In the family, Shimmer was the youngest and as the only daughter, her brothers were so protective of her. When they heard that she was home, her brothers came as if they sensed what happen. They have met Zeke when Shimmer left him downstairs to clean her room that he would be sleeping in for the meantime, and they seemed to like Zeke instantly. They didn't even know who the man was, yet they already liked him.

After tidying her room for him to rest, she freshen up downstairs before dragging her feet back upstairs, ignoring her brothers who was ready to fire her questions, and didn't went down again, yet.

"You have a wonderful family, Shim." he suddenly said making her looked at him. He was staring at her for the last 3 minutes before he spoke while Shimmer was busy gazing ahead, eyes unfocused. He smiled.

"Thanks." she said smiling a little.

She have a wonderful family indeed. Her mother was an excellent cook. Since she was kid, her father always brought home a freshly caught fresh from the sea and her mother cooked those fishes for their meal. Her mother wasn't just a great cook but a hardworking farmer too. The back of her mother's house were planted with root crops, vegetables and spices like ginger, onion leaves, tomato, bell pepper, and other spices as well as vegetables that could grow on the kind of soil they have and temperature. They have yet to visit her mother and father's house and they could do it in the morning.

Zeke smiles back at her gently and turned his gaze outside. They were sitting on the balcony watching the dark early night and listening to the sound of the rain made on the roof. They sat in companionable silence and this was what they both needed. For now.

In his mind, there were thousands of words running through it that he wanted to tell to the woman beside him but he doesn't know what to say or how to say it. He just met the family of his mate, know them already and got closer to them in just hours of being there. Yet, they still didn't know about him better aside from being the owner of the hotel and casino Shimmer's boss managed when he wasn't in the country. There were still many things they didn't know about him. Most of those were better to be kept hidden for them to be safe.

He had spent his entire afternoon talking and getting to know Shimmer's family, especially her brothers. They were all professionals and two of them were expecting a child while the other two were still unmarried; one does have a girlfriend and the other one none.

"How long have you been as Miss Hart's Personal Assistant?" he asked breaking the silence.

"Almost two years now," she answered after a moment. The question startled her slightly because it reminds her of her denied apprenticeship. She had moved on about it but bringing it back still saddens her a little.
