Alarm went off, it's 5:30 am on her phone.

Shimmer sat up on her bed, scratching her head and stifling a yawn.

She needs to wake up early afraid she'd be late for her first day of work as a secretary to the hotel manager, that she remember, she hasn't learned the name yet. Scolding herself for being so preoccupied. She reached up to her bedside table to get her phone and checked the message that was sent to her two days ago.

Stretching her limbs, she stood up and scratch her still half closed eyes on the back of her palm. She really need not to be lazy today. Last night was fun, she grinned to herself. Good thing she didn't drink any alcohol her friends gave her. Which she was thankful for because she did not have a pounding headache right at this moment.

Which would surely slow her down and get herself late at work.

No.

She won't allow it to happen.

Ever.

She went out with her new friends last night, they brought her to a club she never had a chance to be in before.

Not that she went to any club all her life.

In fact, last night was her first time.

She lived in a town were clubs were non-existent, not to mention, her family.

Family.

Right.

Shimmer got ready. Took a short bath, brushed her teeth and combed her hair, letting it air dry whilst choosing her clothes to wear.

Shimmer put on a black high-waist skirt that fall down just above her knees that hugged her petite frame. Pulled creamy white button-up blouse on and tucked it in her skirt. She then pulled her now dried hair back to a mid ponytail, pinned so no tendrils of her mane fall down her face, colored her pale lips with light pink glossy liptint enough to make herself professionally presentable, and put on her bestfriend benny, her eyeglasses.

Benny.
Her pakners-in-crime. Her choice of words.

Weird enough, she's good to go.

Walking from the small mirror in the bathroom to her bed, she picked up her blazer, checked her bag if everything she needs in it, slipped in her work shoes and locked the door behind her.

Suga hotel was quite lavish from where she stood, looking up to count how many floors does it have. Shaking her head, she proceeded to head inside and was greeted by a receptionist.

"Good morning, I'm here for Ms. Hart. Do you know where her office is?" she asked kindly, smiling to the beautiful woman in front of her. She looks kind and cheerful, she thought.

"Are you Ms. Parks?" the receptionist replied, smiling kindly back at her. Shimmer nodded, realizing it wasn't professional she added, "yes".

"Ms. Hart is expecting you in her office before she arrives, it's in the second floor, last room to the left." she smiled again and nodded at Shimmer. Shimmer nodded back and uttered, "Thank you. Have a nice day. " before walking to the elevator and hopped in.

Shimmer stood up after she heard clicking of heels going to where she was at, the office.

She automatically knew it was Ms. Hart and greeted her a pleasant morning after the latter closed the door behind her.
Ms. Hart greeted her back, smiled and was now sitted in front of her behind her desk.
Shim noticed the woman behind the desk now looked worried. She wanted to ask what troubles the woman but she knew better than to ask that. She was her employer after all and it wasn't her job to be nosy around her or anyone in the office. That was so unprofessional. She just hoped it wouldn't affect her employment.

"Sorry, Ms. Parks. I just had a very pleasant surprise this morning." Ms. Hart notted sarcastically and sighed loudly. "This wouldn't affect your employment, of course, so do not worry," she smiles at Shim honestly and Shimmer visibly relaxed, she didn't notice she tensed up when she saw the woman with the expression on her face walked in. Wait. Did I said it out loud? Shimmer frown a bit but dismissed the thought immediately,

"Thank you, Ma'am." Shim replied earnestly. Giving the woman a pleasant and grateful smile in return but Ms. Vega waived it off as if hitting an invisible fly off,

"Call me Ms. Hart from now on. And I mean it! I don't like to sound so old, you know!" Ms. Hart playfully glared, pointing her finger at Shim and laughed, so did Shimmer. She can't help but feel warm and grateful inside knowing that her boss wasn't the kind of boss she expected her to be.
They were both grinning widely like they already knew each other before. She didn't really expect that Ms. Hart was this playful and nice.

Well, she might as well do her best to not disappoint her boss.

Shimmer was enjoying her work so far. She was not only doing her job for Ms. Hart as her secretary, she also observed and tried it firsthand the job of being an attendant. Facilitating guests. Room keeper. And even visited the hotel kitchen. It was a great experience for her. She was very thankful to Ms. Hart for allowing her to learn everything in the hotel. It was a big fat opportunity for her and a useful experience to be used in applying cruise ship and she's very excited at it.

Now, she's in the room where the guest that previously stayed checked out an hour ago. Leaving the room with a heaping pile of used bedsheets and all.

Ms. Hart wasn't in the office right now. She was off to have a meeting with the hotel owner outside the city.

In fact, she's breathing Paris air right at this moment.

Lucky woman.

She never even gone outside the country before. Heck. It was even her first time to be in this large city.

Looking around the room, she started to fold those dirty bedsheets and change the mattress and pillowcases to new ones. Cleaned the toilet. Dusted the floor and furnitures. Freshen up the air in the room and air conditioned it before she went outside and put all the trash and used sheets away.

Most days when she tasked herself to clean a room, with Ms. Vega's permission of course, she got tips. Mostly, guests left a dollar or two on the table when they checked-out. Dollar. This only mean that most of Suga Hotel's guests were foreigners.

Not only that but most of them were rich.

Wealthy.

Ridiculously wealthy.

Well, a dollar or two was nothing for them but definitely something for someone who need every penny, right?

And the guest does not bother to drop a tip on the table. She noted.

Shimmer spent her three-days off of Ms. Hart's clutches and enjoy her every day tips.

She always buy something to bring with her when she's off work to give to some street kids she came to know and like.

Shim bought burgers and floats from McDonald's today. She was sure that those kids were starving and she couldn't let them eat leftovers or molded bread thrown in the trash bin nearby where the street kids reside, all the time. She knew that those kids were used to their meals but at least they can eat clean food even once a day.

Sometimes when Shimmer got extra with her wage, she cooked food for them. Mostly, vegetables. She also cleaned them, clothes them new and clean and cut their unkept hair.

Shimmer knew that this helpful act brought smiles to those kid's cheeks, lighting their eyes with pure joy of having someone to remember them, take care of them when their parents failed to do so. If they have one.

Kids.

How badly she misses her two little pumpkins.
