I found myself observing my surroundings, before me were many narrow cobbled streets, each of which had shops lining their walls but none which were occupied by people. Unusually enough, there wasn't a soul in sight despite this looking like a prosperous town.
I wanted to know more about this place, it wasn't every day you woke up in a foreign realm.
I slowly limped forward, following the street directly across from me.
Heaving with every step, I examined each of the stores as I walked by, they all shared a similar rustic appearance.
The roofs were shaped like spearheads, the walls were a mixture of red and black bricks, and the writing on the buildings was written in an alien language.
My wet socks slapping against the concrete was the only noise besides the rain until a horn sounded, there was no telling where it was coming from, the sound bouncing off every wall.
It stopped and started three times before quieting completely and I was too preoccupied trying to find the source, I didn't notice the small being approaching quickly from behind me.
The individual collided with my shoulder, almost knocking me off my feet before landing on the ground beside me.
It was a young woman.
I wanted to help her, knowing she was likely having trouble seeing in the rain and ran into me, but, my injuries were barely allowing me to stand.
The shorter lady looked to be okay, she'd landed on her knees and used her hands to break her fall.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
The girl was picking herself up when she turned around quickly as though she'd forgotten I was there. As soon as her eyes met mine, she looked me up and down before focusing on the cut on my forehead and gasping loudly.
I was aware I had a gash but I was sure the bleeding had stopped and with my hair plastered to my forehead, I assumed the cut was mostly hidden.
"Forgive me, forgive me." She rushed over and took one of my hands in hers, bowing her head.
Confused, I hesitantly squeezed her hand, assuring her it was fine.
"It's okay, I'm not hurt." I smiled, but the girl looked me over once again and winced, I must've looked the furthest thing from 'not-hurt' a girl could be.
"What happened to you?" She exclaimed, "Your family and the rest of the Creators must be worried sick about you and...."
The loud horn sounded again but this time in a deeper pitch.
"There's no time to get you cleaned up, although you'll be forgiven if you miss the execution, I don't think you'll escape without punishment." The girl stopped to think for a second, resting her index finger on her chin.
"There's no way for me to get you to the reserved section at the front with your family and considering we'll be the last to arrive we'll have to loiter at the back, but we've got to hurry or we'll miss the headcount.
The girl starts pulling me along, but I plant my feet to the ground.
I definitely don't know her never mind trust her. There's a chance she could be bad news and considering my unfamiliarity with this realm, I'd say I'm better off taking my chances alone so I slip my hand out of hers.
"What are you doing? You might not be publicly humiliated for not going, but you'll still face harsh judgement from the rest of the Creators and from Blaze for not showing your support of his leadership?"
The Creators? Blaze?
I now realised I was utterly clueless and fully at the mercy of whatever came my way.
"I think you might've mistaken me for someone else, I'm not one of these Creators."
The girl tilted her head to one side and crossed her arms like a child.
"You really want to avoid going that bad? I understand if you know the person going to be executed but it's not like you have a choice, even if you do have privileges the rest of us don't. We both know that Blaze doesn't do mercy, especially when it comes to disobeying his orders.
And just to let you know, I'm no idiot. You have blood on your knees, forehead and arms and just to remind you, your blood is gold." The girl announced almost proudly, emphasizing the 'gold'.
"Only Creators have golden blood, everyone knows that. So you have two options, either I carry you or you start walking?" The girl finishes in a motherly tone whilst squinting her beady eyes, trying to be somewhat stern, maybe if she was taller I could take her a bit more seriously.
The girl was around five foot three and had shoulder-length brown hair with a fringe that would suit a five-year-old, her face was moon shaped and her cheeks were chubby making her petite nose look like a button.
Her honey-coloured skin allowed a delicate blue vein lurking underneath her left eye to steal the limelight from the unique colour of her mostly blue irises with specks of green.
Her small mouth and downturned lips stretched into a nervous smile, showing a row of small straight white teeth.
"Anyone home?" The girl waved awkwardly.
I shook my head lightly, the girl didn't look like she could swat a fly, let alone take advantage of me.
"What's your name?" I asked suddenly
"Moira." The shorter girl replied, bowing slightly.
"You don't have to do that?" I whispered, slightly embarrassed.
Mora raised her eyebrows in question.
"Who raised you, you don't act like any Creator I've ever met?"
I start stuttering, not knowing what to tell her.
"Never mind, I'll just settle for your name," Moira said.
I couldn't stop my expression from becoming one of bewilderment as I searched my mind for any shred of information about myself. Fumbling through my thoughts, a name revealed itself to me, although I'm not sure if it's mine, I say it anyway.
"Are you sure, you seem kind of....uncertain?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. My name is Ezri."
Author's note
Looks like Ezri's attempt to escape reality landed her in hot water, but at least she's made a new friend.
Where do you think the girls are headed in the next chapter and what are your first impressions of Moira?
