"Cynthia, you gotta wake up." I shook her gently at first, praying this wasn't real. This wasn't reality.
"Wake up." I pleaded, this was hardly a joke, my sister wasn't dead. That was impossible, as her big brother, I'd never let anyone hurt her, I wouldn't.
Tears burned my eyes and my lips began to quiver as I held my sister tight and realised that her eyes were fixed, void of life and there was a hole in her chest, big enough for one to fit their whole arm through.
"No, no, no, no!" Not Cynthia, what had she ever done to deserve this?
"Who did this?" I sobbed into her shoulder as I rocked her gently backwards and forth.
"Hmm?" I placed a soft kiss against her forehead as everything burned to the ground around me.
I had to get her out of here, that was the least I could do.
I got to my feet with my sister cradled in my arms, but my stomach dropped when I realised that I still hadn't found Ezri and what if she'd met the same fate as my sister. Her body could be anywhere amongst the lab.
The flames were vicious and vile like those of a wildfire, they'd already engulfed the second third of the room whilst I'd been focused on my sister.
I began to search the room frantically with my eyes to see if I could spot Ezri's smooth brown skin amongst the stark reds and oranges but, I couldn't make out much, not with the thick black smoke.
"Ezri!" I staggered forward a couple of steps towards where I recalled two large glass cylinders being when I stepped into something that 'froze me'.
And before I could fathom what was happening images were playing out in front of my eyes, like some kind of movie but I was one of the characters.
I was in a witchy den of sorts if the dark and symbolic decorations were anything to go by and there was a woman, her head shaved clean with bird tattoos above both ears, standing next to me around a black marble table.
There was a blueprint of my family estate on the table with connotations and sticky notes stuck to it, whoevers body I've come to inhabit points to the gates that make up the entrance before shaking his head.
The woman to my left nods, agreeing with whatever I've said when Blaze walks into the room. He looks comfortable, he doesn't have his staff on him and he even carries a mug in his left hand before he walks over to the opposite side of the table and begins to examine the plans in front of him.
Seconds pass before he looks up, his eyes flicker with mirth and a smirk plays on his lips.
No, no, no, no.
The flames, the destruction, my sister dead, only one man was capable of such destruction and only one would want to cause it.
Blaze.
An ear-piercing creak sounded above me, I didn't have time to look up before leaping out of the way as part of the ceiling collapsed and tumbled to the ground.
I couldn't hold back the tears, my mother's lab was no more and Ezri was most likely dead, I'd failed.
Before the flames consumed me too, I ran back the way I came with my sister resting in my arms.
