"Jordan, this is your fault. You should've just left the girl, for all you know she would've made her way back on her own, but instead, you rallied us all up and convinced us to venture right into the belly of the beast. We're lucky we had the cover of the crowd and the smoke threw Blaze's accuracy otherwise we'd all be fucked. I'm surprised that Commander didn't try to singe us anyways." Neyon spoke.
"Well he did get one of us, my arm looks like grilled beef from when that tyrant grabbed me." A tall dark-skinned black man added with a gleaming bald head.
"You know that's not what I meant." Neyon responded, "And there's still a small possibility Raury could be alive."
"That's a real small possibility, what are we talking.... like two percent?" Octavion muttered.
"Knock it off Octavion, we don't need your pessimism right now," Jordan added.
"I'm being realistic and what exactly are we gonna do if he is alive? Anyone got any ideas; should we all storm Blaze's home and go searching through his castle hoping we find Raury whilst dodging the fireballs the Commanders throwing our way." Octavion chuckled. "Neyon, you're the last person I expect to be entertaining this crap."
There was a brief silence before I heard a scuffle.
"Boys, cut it out." A woman spoke, her shadow was no taller than five foot four and she looked like a dwarf in comparison to the men beside her.
"Enough of this bickering, I've heard too much for one night." The lady spoke again, her voice was one of a smokers, gravelly and hoarse.
"There's no use hoping, Raury is in Blaze's hands now and we won't risk the whole organisation and the members in it to retrieve him, we all know what we signed up for." I heard a couple of people hum in agreement.
"Think about it like this," she continued, "if Blaze didn't kill Raury right away, the boy could be spilling everything, all of our plans, our location, every member's name and ally we have. We better pray to the Gods that our hybrids on the inside got rid of him before he could talk. Didn't someone say they saw Gus on the podium alongside Blaze at the execution?"
Wait a minute, the Hybrids were working against Blaze?
"I saw him." A deep voice replied.
"Good, that means the Hybrids have gained Blaze's trust and soon enough we'll be able to carry out the big one."
The big one, clearly The Plague were planning something on a larger scale and something told me that it would flip the script completely.
I could only feel concerned for the fate of Gloria and even more for Blaze, he had no idea his friends were working against him.
The man known as Gus must have been the rat they'd spoken of in the past and I couldn't help but be annoyed that someone was playing both sides in this war, that was nothing short of dishonourable.
It also told me these men and women didn't have the power or strength to defeat Blaze on their own so they'd paid someone on the inside to do their dirty work. How cowardly could they be?
I wonder how many hybrids were lying through their teeth and waiting for Blaze to slip up so they could steal his power and move up in society.
Jordan told me about the powers Hybrids have, their abilities were far from natural and I was certain only tragedy would follow if The Plague ever followed through with this foolish plan.
My stomach walls began to contort and I started to feel nervous bubbles dance in the pit of my stomach, as much as I tried to calm down I couldn't. My face and body felt ragingly hot and my chest lit up with that familiar purple light, there couldn't be a worse time for this to happen.
The floor beneath my feet began to tremor and seconds later the walls of the home began to shake, from here I could hear the perfectly positioned portraits in the corridors fall and smash against the hardwood floor, I would dare say this quake was worse than the last.
"What the hell is this!?" Octavion yelled, who I had no doubt was holding onto the kitchen table for dear life.
" I err, I must've left one of my computers on upstairs." I heard Jordan blurt out nervously.
Oh no, I knew Jordan was exactly aware of what was going on but he was lying, not very well may I add, to try and calm their suspicions. Jordan had already told me that in this part of the continent, they never had earthquakes.
If I didn't want to be seen I needed to make myself scarce and fast. Almost directly across from the kitchen was an abandoned study, I often used the room to relax seeing as it was vacant most days.
Despite the small ground tremors and my slightly blurred vision that had become a side effect of whenever the purple light in my chest turned on, I dragged myself along the walls and not so subtly stumbled into the room before closing the door slightly.
"Your computer, really?" Neyon questioned before I heard a series of small crashes, which I assume was the china on the kitchen shelves meeting the floor.
"Err, no actually I meant- I have this new thing I've been working on.....it's like... an err." Jordan stuttered.
"We don't care what it is, just go turn it off." The short woman demanded.
"I'll go do that." And then I heard Jordan's hurried footsteps come out of the kitchen and jog towards the stairway before he disappeared.
"I'm coming Ezri," Jordan promised quietly.
If only he knew I wasn't in my room but just mere metres from where he'd been seconds ago.
Author's note
First and foremost, I just graduated and I'm glad my university journey is over (for now), I might go back but I know full well that I shouldn't. And I'd say that updates are gonna be every two weeks but honestly, my tenancy is almost up and I need somewhere else to live, so I'm doing as many property viewings as I can meanwhile working a whole bunch of hours to afford said properties so I'm very busy at the moment but I'll try my best with updates.
