Ezri
It must've been a dream, one minute I was stuck inside that glass cage like a bug inside a jar when I saw Blaze. He was standing outside the cylinder, across from me, with his magnetic gaze glued to mine and his palms pressed against the transparent wall like my long-lost lover separated by an impenetrable barrier.
It had to be a hallucination, it had to be, what would he be doing in a place like this, to rescue me?
Despite thinking that I was doomed, destined to be destroyed by Cynthia's delusion, like a miracle, the glass shattered. As though someone had blown over a house of cards, within a second the cage disintegrated.
I screamed as shards flew around me, nicking and scraping my skin like tiny paper cuts and I could only seal my eyes as I waited for it to be over.
Cautiously, I peeled open my lids and saw somebody engaging with Cynthia, arguing with the deluded girl as if she would listen to anyone.
The man had dark skin and beautiful braids, but was he friend or foe, I couldn't be sure yet. I'd passed out shortly after Cynthia flicked the switch that had brought this contraption to life so I hadn't even seen him enter the lab.
Although he and Cynthia didn't appear to be on the best terms, that didn't mean this stranger would help me. If anything he might also know my secret, the truth about me and my existence and he might even want the Mirrors too.
I didn't want to imagine the kind of torture he could subject me to and if it would be worse than this. Surely, it couldn't be worse than this?
But, time was of the essence, I had to free myself whilst I had the chance.
I looked down at the straps that had me glued to this bench, praise the universe, one of the leather wrist straps was somewhat shredded and wilted from the blast.
There was no way the restraints were as indestructible as they'd first been.
I began to pull at the most damaged wrist strap, some of the larger shards had destroyed the material's integrity and if I pulled hard enough- gotcha. I'd managed to free one hand.
Anxiously, I looked up at Cynthia who was beginning to approach the stranger with some sort of gun, the weapon was a sleek silver with vibrant purple stripes.
My teeth dug into my bottom lip as I used my free hand to hurriedly undo the restraints on my other arm whilst repeatedly looking up, keeping a close eye on Cynthia.
The deranged sibling began to flaunt the gun and wave it around as she approached the stranger with that god-awful walking stick.
I knew without a shadow of a doubt that she was going to kill him with whatever lethal weapon she'd managed to get her crazed hands on.
Fuck, the restraint wasn't coming undone, from the looks of it, it needed two hands.
I stared down at my trapped wrist, frustrated and annoyed as I began to pull harder and harder, so much so that the bench began to rattle until I heard a zap followed by the sound of a body hitting the floor.
Thud.
I froze.
The silence was toe-curling, the stranger had to be dead, he had to be. Cynthia murdered him like she intended to do to me.
I could taste blood on my tongue as I realised that my teeth had pierced my lip, the tension was too much.
I didn't want to move, I couldn't. If I lifted my head, I knew I'd see the worst.
Cold shivers ran down my spine as I began to shake and I felt my chest warm and light like it always does whenever I feel too much.
This time things escalated much faster than they ever had, my chest burned with fire as it lit up and I couldn't breathe, I couldn't catch my breath.
