"i'm going on a business trip."

jihoon looked up from his plate of pasta. the tranquil state of the café wherein they were one of the few guests cracks a little with the out of the blue announcement. "suddenly?" he asked. her job didn't require that much traveling hence his confusion. "when?"

"the day after tomorrow," y/n hummed. she took a small sip of her flat white, smiling gently with a nod when the taste was to her liking.

"where?"

"hm, paris," she responded while gradually getting frustrated with the piece of chocolate croissant that would not just slice. she gave up and picked up the bread as it was, tearing it into smaller portions to be bite size. "i don't know if the knife is at fault or if the bread is too hard."

"how long?" jihoon eyed the girl in front of him who was more focused on tearing the bread than conversing. the flakes of the bread falling onto her white top was quite a painful sight. he grabbed some tissue paper in the box on their table before handing it to her. "put your croissant back on your plate, i'll slice it," he said. she obliged, already tired of the flakes and crumbs going everywhere, and jihoon switched their plates.

she twirled a portion of his seafood pasta with a fork, "three days and two nights. not too long," she answered before taking a bite. mediocre pasta, she recognizes off the bat. she doesn't take a second bite.

"oh," he shortly remarked, slicing the last of the croissant into smaller pieces. he tried the smallest piece he sliced. it tasted superb, unlike the pasta he ordered with high hopes. he cleared his throat. "well, do you need me to pick you up from the airport?"

y/n shook her head and switched their plates back, or more like she returned the food back where it belongs. "the company is offering transportation so might as well utilize it," she shrugged.

their conversation about her trip smoothly transitions into another random, mundane topic. if they could probably recall, it was about the local dollar store having the highest quality frying pans and them bonding over the pans. they always used to do this – bond over and talk endlessly about random thoughts the other would spurt out – when they were still friends.

probably just a couple of weeks ago they had started going out as a couple after confirming their romantic feelings were mutual. but, not much action was going on between them. the girlfriend liked the pace and taking slow. she had always enjoyed his company and having his company around more often as her partner delighted her. the boyfriend, however, always attempted to do bold, romantic moves but chickens out before the last second without her noticing. in turn, she was taking the lead in all relationship stuff he was an amateur on. for that, he adored her.
