— plot. 'the detective files' is a true crime podcast hosted by the two, and only, members of the detective club of jeongwon high school. an unexpected case request for them to cover comes in.
a serial killer that killed a total of eight women in a rural town with the known signature of slicing the throats of each victim in the shape of a heart.
the suspect, caught after almost a decade, turned out to be the town's local baker where housewives, children, working men, and most citizens would buy their morning bread from with merry smiles.
everyone knew that this local baker was up in the early hours of morning to
prepare his goods, but nobody knew his whereabouts at night when he closed the bakery.and not a single soul knew that he was brutally killing women and carving eerie heart shaped traces on their skins.
"now aged seventy-six, the killer is now serving the rest of his sentence in an unknown jail center."
"isn't that unfair? not knowing where he's stationed," junkyu shares his opinion through the microphone, facing yeoreum across the table. "i mean. if i were one of the victim's family, i'd rather know where the killer is at all times."
yeoreum nods, "that's what i think as well."
"..which is why this created an uproar in social media. it was already fishy that such an important detail wasn't revealed to the public. no statements are being made about the subject yet."
yeoreum looks down to their script printed on a piece of paper which she had rested on the table. "this episode, we shared about the infamous 'heart shaped killer' case. any thoughts about the case can be left on our Twitter page at jeongwon underscore the detective files podcast. all in lowercase letters," she raises her head to look back at junkyu for his cue.
he was already prepared even without her guidance. "we are also open to case requests anytime via DMs on Twitter. trollers will be blocked and reported immediately," he said, his tone almost standardized.
"once again this is the detective files' host, jang yeoreum,"
"and i am co-host, kim junkyu. see you next episode."
a moment of silence was shared in the room. "one.. two.." yeoreum murmured tapping on the table slowly with each count.
"three," she said, loudly this time. right away, junkyu rotated clockwise in his seat, "good job today, jangyeo."
she puts down her headphone cradle on her neck, slightly smiling. "good job too, junkyu."
the boy seemed more than delighted with her compliment as his face quickly lit up. "since our jangyeo did a good job today, she will be treating her nice president for dinner—"
"shut up."
"aiya, captain!" he snickered.
he watches her take out her laptop from her backpack with amused eyes. "captain, aren't you hungry from talking on and on for half an hour? come on. let's grab dinner, junkyu's hungry," he cutely winks at her, which she never received since she was already busy opening her laptop and typing in her passcode.
