Chapter 57 | To our youth

THERE ARE THREE THINGS THE BOY THOUGHT BEFORE DYING.

one, he wasn't sure if he turned off his lights on his apartment.

though, he wasn't dying. as of the moment, that is. the said boy who would be dying soon was currently standing in front of a girl, clueless to his death soon.

"i like you." from when they first met as kids, he had loved her. from when they would play all the games they could list on top of their heads 'till day to dinnertime, he had loved her. they were bounded to the hip. him and her- the one he loved the most.

shin seha.

"jihoon," her voice was endearing. she mentioned his name from her lips that were visibly frowning. "you know i can't." she said, in a mere whisper.

"do you love him?"

"i do." it scared him how genuine her words felt. words shouldn't carry that pure of sincerity. it was too much for him to bear. "i like him. very much."

he liked her too, very much.

nonetheless, he kept his mouth sealed. he only kept a smile on his lips, a hand going over the top of her head to pat it safe, "sorry for putting you in an awkward position." he said.

she shook her head, denying all his worries. regardless, he knew deep inside her that she would never expect her cowardly friend to confess the feelings he had been suppressing over the years. everything was obvious. even an idiot could tell. from the way he treated her.

from the way he woke up extra early to knock on her door so they could walk to school together during high school. walked her home even with all his extracurriculars. bought her all her favorite snacks and secretly left them on her desk anonymously.

lined up for a ticket selling of her favorite idol. it was a brutal memory, indeed. watched the same dramas she watched, to talk to her about them. he loved the sparkle on her eyes when she shared her thoughts about the latest episode.

stayed up all night hearing all her rants about her dick of an ex-boyfriend, he'd insult them verbally, while his mind wanted to push him to casually saying "what if you dated me instead?".

he never said them. he wished he did.

his efforts were watered down. he confessed too late.

before she could speak, he ruffled her hair. "i don't expect anything. i just wanted to tell you how i felt. i don't want it to affect our friendship. i'll still be here for you, always."
