Mei and Kagura set for the village, one more reluctant to walk through the forest more than the other. Mei kept a close distance to Kagura, not too sure which direction to turn or what would be on the other side.
Kagura kept her stoic expression as always, taking occasional glances at Mei from time to time without saying much. Since their walk, they didn't share too much between eachother. It was obvious there was something on Mei's mind that just wouldn't release its clutches. Her amber-ruby eyes focused on the floor ahead of her, shielded by the wispy lashes on her face.
Kagura couldn't look at Mei the same after her realization. All she could see were the flames surrounding her as her castle burned to the ground with her parents inside. The guilt consumed her, stuffing itself down her throat and pitting in the darkest corners of her mind.
What was she to do? How was she going to go on living this lie that Naraku has set up for the both of them. Just how-
"Kagura. . " thankfully the forest itself was hushed except the rustling of leaves. Hearing her call out to her sounded like a faint memory of the past instead of the present state.
"I was just wondering, what kind of fruit did you like? If they have some I want to be sure you get some too."
She was surprised that it wasn't a more serious topic, but at the same time relieved.
"Oh, uh-" how was she going to answer this? She doesn't even eat food. At all. "It really doesn't matter. We're going here for you, afterall." Mei didn't like that response. Instead of prying further, she looked forward, her lips turned downwards in disappointment.
Kagura noticed her abrupt silence again. C'mon kid, stop being like this.
"Actually," she raised her pitch in hopes that it woud change Mei's mood. "I think I could go for some strawberries and pork buns." a small smile spread on Mei's lips, but still no response.
"What's with you?" Kagura quizzed, huffing out loud. "You've been weird since we've leftthe castle." she pointed out. Mei tilted her head to the side and shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm not sure." she began. "Its like. . The dream I had I can't shake for the life of me. And then, Naraku left again to search for Inuyasha," Kagura remembered their conversation all too well, "So, i'm not sure, i'm just a little sad today. And, for whatever the reason, that tea I drank has me feeling so funny."
"Funny how?"
"I don't know, like my stomach has been warm since we left. And there's a spot on my hip that just itches so bad. I don't know. Today is just. . Strange."
"Hmph." Kagura paused, thinking of what to say. She squinted her eyes in the distance, seeing the village come into view ahead of them. "What was it about?"
"What was what about?"
"Your dream." Mei rounded her lips in a silent 'ooooh!'. She tapped her finger on her lips, looking around for an answer to her question.
"I just. . I dreamt of my father." she tapped her teeth, furrowing her brows. "I saw him, fighting some man. . His name was Tetsuo and. . . He killed him. He was so sad. And Naraku was there too. It was all too strange. Like watching something from a different viewpoint. And it all felt way too real," she took a breath, her shoulders dropping in defeat.
"I just. . Miss my father. Having that dream made me think about him and- I wish you could have met him." she looked up at the sky, admiring the passing white clouds.
"He taught me so much, and I just want to make him proud. That's why I harp so much about his sword. I don't care about the shards as much as I do about the actual sword. ."
