"Mei. Let's head to the springs."

Mei and naraku walked alongside each other, neither looking each other's way as the pale dawn rose above the horizon. Its shy hues of orange and red cascaded upon their stoic faces. When the sun's yellow pigment touched the cool of Mei's cheek, it reflected a soft pink flush and a shimmer to her eyes. It looked as though in them shone a ruby and not that of an iris.

It was but the early peak of dawn, one of the many days that Naraku spent entangled with Mei until the sun descended and the moon took its place. Mei's consistency in her journal had fallen slack since Naraku occupied most of her free time, but during the days of his absence he was able to catch fresh entries that gave him the idea to open the invitation presented.

Naraku is gone again and I'm left alone to myself. Which I don't mind. These past few weeks has brought me a sense of peace with Naraku around and Kagura nowhere to be found but I dare not to roam these halls still. How every loop of the hallway seems to repeat itself makes me worry that I'll be lost in its loop as well.

And... on top of that, I still have had that conversation on my mind. With Inuyasha. How he 'warned' me and I still came back. Am I a fool? No... I don't believe myself to be. Naraku hasn't hurt me and I can see the sincerity in his eyes. I can feel it. But... I still feel there's a block. There's something about the way that he holds me and the way he flinches when I touch him... that makes me feel separated from him.

And, not only that, I- I just don't know. This all just feels too good to be true and I- I just want to believe I'm not on a timeclock and that his feelings are genuine. But a part of me is hesitant to push the question or just hesitant to find out the true answer.

I would like to just bathe in the springs at sunrise and clear my mind, but it feels like it getting harder to do or harder to ask as the time passes...

"Naraku? Is there something wrong?"

Naraku shook his head out of his reflective state and gazed at Mei with soft eyes until his heart began to thump harder than usual.

What is this? Is that you, Onigumo? Why can't you let me enjoy her without your meddlesome human emotions?

There was a long-winded silence, and Onigumo responded back to the bothered Naraku.

Foolish demon. Just because you carry my heart doesn't mean I carry your feelings as well.

"Naraku? Are you well? Would you like to go back to the castle?"

It was then that Naraku realized he broke out into a cold sweat with his hand still hovering over his chest. With a halted hand, he shook his head in decline as he stood to his feet. Mei, a worried expression littered across her face, reached her hand to his cheek but Naraku caught it only centimeters away.

"I'm sorry, I- you just look pale... I won't touch your face if- "

Naraku took a shaky breath as he softened his grip around Mei's wrists. He remembered the lines of her diary, word for word with great care; as if he were given the designated task to wove a kimono from silk.

"I'm sorry."

Mei's eyes got big at his apology. He was not much of a man for words but the sudden gesture caught her a bit off guard.

"I'm sorry." He repeated once more with less hesitation. He pulled her hand to his cheek until her porcelain fingers grazed across his stubbled flesh. She extended each finger until she could hint ever detail with her eyes closed.

"Naraku..." Mei murmured under her breath. She helped herself to cradle his face in her hands as their gazes met. His normally hardened gaze softened as he felt himself pulled into Mei's crimson embers.

His large hands circled around her waist as his heart quickened in pace. Never having felt for a human in this manner, he tried his hardest to refrain from acting on impulse but it dawned on him.

Mei wasn't even a human. She was a demon.

She's a demon. That's why you're behaving like an adolescent in full bloom

Naraku suddenly released his grip from Mei abruptly. Looking down at her wanting eyes, he kissed her gently on the forehead and backed away to sit alongside an oversized Oak tree.

"Why don't you relax in the springs? I'll be here," he mused at her with a smile.

Mei's full lips spread into a playful smile as she squatted down to meet Naraku's gaze once more.

"Now, Naraku. Don't tell me you've decided to be a lecherous one and watch me bathe. Why don't you join me? Are you shy? May I remind you,"

Mei shifted her shoulders up and down until the hem of her kimono revealed a fleshy colored spider leg that extended across her collar bone to slightly above her breast.

"If I'm not mistaken, this is a marking of a mate. I read the books in my room on demons and mating, and it says that the marking is only effective if both people are demons."

His lips curved in amusement, "So, are you telling me you're a demon, Mei?"

"Maybe. If I tell you that I am, will you join me?"

In a flash, Naraku grabbed the hem of Mei's kimono, causing her to stumble forward onto his chest.

"I'll do more than that if you keep looking at me like that," his lips roamed from her nose down to her oval jawline downwards before settling on her collarbone to leave a slightly red passion mark. His hand roamed the lower portion of her kimono, hiking it up slightly to hover over her quivering sex.

"But I feel like its what you want. Isn't it?"

"And if it is?"

You're just going to use her and dispose of her. Like you do everything, Naraku."

His heart throbbed in reluctance. With a suck of his teeth, he settled for a soft kiss on her lips as he moved her raven locks out of the way.

"I'll decide when you come from the baths. Now go."
