Naraku, after Mei's constant negotiations, decided to stay at the riverbank for the remainder of the day to watch the sunrise and the sunset pass them by. Mei decided upon herself to visit a nearby village for food so they would have no reason to leave their designated area, and it worked.

Between bountiful meals of fish, rice, and cabbage, they embraced eachother in silence and in echoes of their exorbitant lust between eachother. Of course, Naraku took it upon himself to instruct Kagura to take watch around the perimeter. He even mandated her to remain at post when he ravaged Mei.

And, with reluctance, Kagura followed suit.

Under the same Oak tree, Mei laid nestled under Naraku with only his robe covering her bare flesh and his undershirt shielding her skin from the dirt underneath her. She rested her head on his chest, taking slow, relaxed breaths like that of a small child. With the sounds of the river lazily grazing against the boulders along the edge and the nearby cicadas echoing in disguise behind the tall grass, Naraku felt a bit... At peace.

His large hand gently stroked her hair, thumb softly rubbing her cheek from time to time. He looked down at her peaceful expression and something inside of him burned for a type of longing. A type of feeling that he never once felt for another human or demon alike. Through so many years, if not ages, his one goal was that of conquest but with Mei, he sought something additional to his initial goal.

With his same thumb, he brushed her bottom lip only slightly as to not wake her. He could feel her chest rise and fall on his arm and it made him pull her even closer, fearful that when she would wake his peaceful slice of life would end.

"Mmh.." Mei softly smacked her lips as her eyes fluttered open. As she looked up, she met Naraku's burning gaze and it immediately made her turn away in embarrassment.

"Do I have something on my face?" she asked, shielding herself with the sleeve of his kimono.

"Not at all." Naraku responded in a low tone, his hand carefully stroking Mei's inner thighs from underneath his kimono. "You're just-"

The words built in his throat with a soft burn that he unwillingly forced back down.

"Just what, Naraku? With her free hand, she raised herself up with his chest for balance only to be shaken off balance to land on his same chest.

She looked up at Naraku, confused and slightly anxious, but she wasn't fearful enough to jump up and away.

"You're just," Naraku took a deep breath, swallowed, and looked back down at Mei with a bite of his lip. "Would you have really come back if I never came for you?"

Mei looked down, a puzzled expression on her face. Something in her stomach made her believe that was was about to say something else, but she decded it was a naiive dream afterall.

"I- I don't see why not. Granted, I wouldn't have really known my way back considering." she referred the ominous miasma that surrounded his castle and, in an almost bratty fashion, hinted how she was incapacitated upon running away from the castle.

"And your sword?" his hand stopped moving for a brief second to flick a bit off stray leaf off her porcelain skin only to continue rubbing her shoulder in a comforting fashion. He cursed himself for not speaking on his feelings, but it wasn't just hesitance that loomed in his heart, he was fearful of Onigumo's words and sought it to be better to protect himself for a little while longer.

What would happen if he professed his feelings? What if Mei decided to run away with that brat and that reincarnant of Kikyo? What if?

That was a game of what-if he just wasn't ready to play just yet.
