JUNGKOOK POV

"Congratulations! Another baby."

"That's wonderful."

Taehyung my Beta had brought his human mate hobi into our
law office to say hello along
with their daughter, Gia.

They'd just given me the news that hobi was pregnant again.

Hobi worked at our den headquarters, hybe Den,
teaching bear shifters English literature and training teachers.

"Thank you."

"We're very excited." Hobi glanced at his mate.

"Once our little one is born, our family will be complete."

"Yeah, we're happy with two kids." Tae told me as he placed
a kiss on his mate's brow.

And while I was pleased for them
and I adored Gia, my mind went to all the cases we had lined up in the coming months and weeks when Tae would be on paternity leave.

Being a lawyer and head of the law office itself entailed long hours and late nights.

But without Tae, my partner in law and the den's Beta, my shoulders slumped thinking of the extra work I'd be doing.

It was only in the last year
that I'd started my own firm.

I was my own boss and tae
came with me.

Before we'd mostly dealt with contracts and tax issues but
now I was back to my first love.

Criminal law.

Seeing him and his family so happy had me reflecting on
my own single status.

My position in the den and at work set me apart a little from both my fellow bear shifters at hybe Den and my colleagues.

Offering tae my best wishes was tinged with sadness at me not having a mate or even dating anyone.

I set my mind to thinking when I'd last been on a date but I couldn't remember.

Being an alpha and the Alpha was intimidating to some shifters, bear shifters in particular.

As the Alpha, the den expected me to mate a bear, though it wasn't a rule and I would have done away with it if it had been.

Our den was not speciesist.

"Hobi! Hobi! Where are you?"

"In here, Hyun."

Hobi's human friend, who was mated to an Alpha panther shifter, poked his head in the open door and I scowled at him.

"Jungkook, nice to see you again." He sniffed as he
scanned the mess on my desk.

"Oh, no you don't." I outstretched both arms and placed them over the surface.

"You're not touching this, I know exactly where everything is."

Hyun couldn't help himself when it came to organizing and hated when items weren't in their proper place.

"Bet you don't." He harrumphed.

He was right but the files were confidential and I could lose my law license if they became public.

"Go decorate the new baby's room at Mead View."

That was Tae and Hobi's house they'd built on den land on the hillside behind Hybe Den.

"Already on it."

He pulled something out of
the large bag he was holding.

"This office needs some Christmas cheer." he insisted as he placed a small fake Christmas tree near a bookcase.
