JUNGKOOK POV
"How many fittings does a person need for a damned tuxedo?"
Felix, my EA, stuck his head through the door.
He'd taken over from Lee as the point man between me and the tailor, now that tae wasn't involved.
"Did you want me to answer that?"
The glower I sent in his direction accompanied by a snarl had him adding, "I guess not."
It was usually Tae who growled but he wasn't in the office and the reason why had put me in
a bad mood.Tae was out because hobi's second pregnancy wasn't routine and he had spent the night before last in the hospital.
My Beta was like a brother and I adored hobi and their daughter.
Knowing hobi wasn't well, although the doctors had allowed him home had me thinking about how fragile life and happiness was.
Much as Hyun annoyed me, he'd stepped up to look after Gia alone with his own twins.
He was as good a friend as Tae was to me.
"Can the tailor send me the suit and we'll video conference?" I asked Felix.
"That way I don't have to
leave the office."Now it was his turn to give
me a withering look."Don't you want to make a
good impression at the gala?"That had me considering the other Alphas who'd be attending.
Joon reminded me of a catwalk model not that I'd studied who walked on a fashion runway other than cursory glances with his expensive suits and never a hair out of place while Hyun wouldn't let his mate,Yoon out
of the house looking less than impeccable. And while I didn't know the other Alphas in town as well as the heads of the wolf pack and panther claw, I suspected they'd be looking their best on the night.
I sighed.
Attending the gala wasn't supposed to be adding even more pressure to my already stressful existence.
And it was out of town.
In the city.
My depositions had been post-poned which was how I'd been able to step in for Tae but with him staying at home with his mate, I would have had to go.
"Did you see the hotel I
booked?" Felix asked."No." I barked.
As long as it had a lockable
door, a bathroom and central heating, I was fine with it.A nearby convenience store was also a plus, as I doubted I'd eat much at the gala and I was too stingy to pay for room service.
"Sorry." I said, lowering my voice.
"You know what I like."
"I'm sure it's acceptable."
"I trust you."
The lead up to Christmas was anxiety-inducingfor a lot of people with the TV ads, window displays, movies and social media promoting the 'perfect' Christmas when there was no such thing.
But for those who had no family were grieving or measured their lives based on what was online, the holidays were far from the happiest time of the year.
Both my parents were dead
and my mother's death wasn't
a natural one, something I'd
never discussed outside of the den and even then only rarely.
