That interview was the most exhausting and strange I had ever been on. My nerves were shot and while I was excited that I had secured the job, I still had more hurdles to jump. After Carrie introduced me to everyone, we returned to her office to plan our next meeting. She gave me some information about the company and paperwork to fill out later on.

"So, Wade, eh?" She leaned forward on her desk with a smile.

"Oh, um well I had some car issues and he stopped." I shrugged nervously. I couldn't figure out why she was questioning me about him.

"That's it?"

"Yes, literally just before the interview. Is that a problem?"

"Oh no. I just, well we can talk more later on." Carrie smiled, standing. I realized it was time to go and I had absolutely no idea how I was going to get back home. I stood and shook her hand, thanking her for everything. I followed her lead as she walked me back to the reception and lobby area. I was fumbling for my phone, hoping that I could reach Brenda at the diner or that the one neighbor I knew, Cliff, would be able to perhaps pick me up. I was about to walk out the door when I heard my name being called. I turned and the receptionist was standing, waving her hand.

"Ms. Gordon! Wait!" She called out. Carrie stopped walking and turned toward me as well. I took a few steps back toward her desk, confused as to what she would need. "Mr. Asher, umm. The younger Mr. Asher, Wade, said to let you know he would be waiting in his truck for you." She smiled, having delivered her message.

"Oh, Ok? Thank you." I stuttered, wondering why he was waiting for me. He was probably upset that his Father had hired me. I chewed my lip nervously, looking over and seeing Carrie smirking at me.

"Have a good evening Ms. Gordon." She smiled before leaving.

I left the building and walked slowly toward Wade's truck. I was a bundle of anxiety and nerves. Today had not been anything I expected it to be and honestly, you would think I'd be used to this by now. I sighed making my way closer just as Wade hopped out with a giant smile on his face.

"Ms. Gordon." He nodded with the most adorable smile as he shoved his hands into his jeans pockets.

"Mr. Asher." I returned. He furrowed his brows, shaking his head from side to side.

"Wade. I've told you." He corrected me.

"Then please, call me Quinn, Wade." I smiled up at him. "The receptionist said you were waiting, I'm sorry. Is there something you need?" I fidgeted on my tired feet. Heels were not my favorite, and only being in them for a short time was painful.

"What? No. Not at all. You, um. You forgot a few of your things in the truck and I just assumed you would need a ride home?" His cheeks flushed a light shade of pink as he seemed nervous.

"Oh. Yeah. I did, and I do. I mean, I could use a ride. I don't want to burden you any more than I already have, though."

"Nonsense. I was already heading this way so it was no trouble at all, now I'm finished and heading back the same way. No burden." He rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet, before heading over to the passenger door and opening it for me. I hesitated for a moment before nodding with a small smile and climbing in.

"So, where am I headed?" He started the engine and I felt another wave of nerves. The apartment complex I lived in wasn't exactly the best. It was all I could afford with what I had scraped together to get away. I've been putting money back non-stop as I've been working, but with my vehicle needing work and waitressing not always paying the best, I was pretty much stuck. I quietly rattled off the address and watched his reaction. He simply nodded and put the truck into gear, heading off.

"Do you know a reliable mechanic?" I asked, hoping he could recommend someone to work on my car. I'd met a handful of people through working at the diner, but no mechanics that I could recall.

"I do." He smiled, not taking his eyes off the road.

"Okay. Well, could I have the number? Do you know if they tow?" I scrolled through google on my phone, waiting for his reply.

"Well, actually, I'm a mechanic. I can take a look at it, should be able to get it running for you." Wade admitted, glancing over at me.

"Oh. Oh, well. I mean, if that's something you do. Please don't take time out of your busy schedule just for me." I stuttered out.

"It's my job. I suppose it was kind of confusing in the office. I don't work with or for my Father." He explained.

"Oh. I didn't realize." I watched his face as his jaw clenched. I could tell this was possibly a touchy subject or, at the very least, something he didn't enjoy discussing.

"I mean, I did. At one time, I worked at the company but it just never interested me. I like working with my hands and being outside so I do mechanic work and have a small farm." He opened up. His smile grows wider as he talks about the mechanic work and farm. "The point is, though, working on cars is part of what I do, so I'll be more than happy to fix it up, hopefully. If that's okay with you." He offered.

"Of course, that would be great. Do you know who I could have to tow it?"

"I'll take care of it all, no worries."

"Well, make sure the cost of that is added to any charges."

"Sure." I could see the smirk on his face when he responded, I hoped he wasn't going to try and do this for me out of pity. I hated that. I was doing my best to take charge of my life and do everything on my own. Yes, I was struggling but I was just getting started.
