Quinn dominated the whole axe-throwing thing. Me? Not so much. Being around her, seeing her so happy and confident, and how damn sexy she was, it threw me off. I couldn't focus for shit. We finished our beers and munched on a variety of appetizers while watching others around us. My cheeks were starting to hurt from smiling so much, but it was infectious. Quinn had wormed her way into my heart, and I wasn't sure if I could ever come back from it.
"I've had the best time! I don't want this night to end." She sang as we made our way out to the parking lot. I glanced over at her, raising a brow. For any other woman, this would have been my immediate opportunity to take her home and to bed. Not that I was opposed to doing that with Quinn, but it just didn't feel right, not now, not yet. "Get your mind out of the gutter. I just meant that I'm having fun being out."
I held the car door as she climbed in, laughing at her scolding of me. I was a bit panicked trying to come up with something else for us to do. Taking her back to my place wasn't an option; it was too dangerous. After the kiss, I was dying for more, and I needed to be a gentleman to show Quinn this was different with her. Once I was in the car, an idea came to me, and I decided to go with it. I hoped she'd enjoy it too; it was simple and, again, something I'd never done with anyone before.
"Are you still hungry?" She laughed when I pulled into a local burger joint drive-thru.
"Nope. I thought we could have a little dessert on the go. Milkshake?"
"Sure." The way she smiled at me, her eyes twinkled in the light, and my heart might have skipped a few beats.
Chocolate shakes in hand, I drove us the ten-minute ride out to the docks. Any time I needed a minute to clear my head, or just time alone, I found myself out at the marina. Water was always soothing to me. The sounds of the water sloshing about, and the boats bobbing in the water, are just my favorite sounds in the world.
"I knew it was too good to be true. You're gonna throw me in the lake, eh?" Quinn chirped, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"You caught me. My plan all along. To have an amazing time with a gorgeous woman and then just throw it away." I shook my head as we parked.
"Gorgeous woman, you say?" I turned toward her and couldn't help myself. I reached up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, then held her by the chin.
"Yes. Absolutely stunning, inside and out." My words were almost a whisper. Her eyes met mine, sitting in silence for a moment before she cleared her throat and nervously unbuckled herself. The energy between us was becoming charged again, and all I wanted to do was kiss her perfect lips.
"Are we gonna make out in the car like teenagers?" Her laugh was a nervous one, but her smile was real. "Not that I'm opposed to that." She was killing me!
I leaned across the seat, bringing my face to hers; I watched her eyes again as they gave me permission and pressed my lips against hers. The pillowy soft lips against mine felt like heaven. It didn't take long before she was parting them, letting my tongue inside. It was a hungry kiss, nothing that I'd ever felt before. Her small hands wound up wrapping around the back of my neck, holding me to her. This taste of her would never be enough, but I knew I had to slow it down. I pulled her bottom lip, sucking and nibbling before releasing her and sitting back with a smile.
Her lips were swollen and red, her pupils dilated, and her breathing shallow. I was happy to see the kiss had affected her just as much as it had me. Making out in the car like horny teenagers didn't sound so bad, but she deserved more than that. I gave her a quick peck before reaching for the car door.
"I could do that all night, but I wanted to show you this." I smiled with a wink.
"Is it okay that we're here?" Quinn held tight to my hand as I led us down the path to the boat dock. "Do you have a boat?" I chuckled at her questions.
"Yes, it's fine, and no, I don't have a boat. There's a viewing area just before you get to the gated area where the boats are. It's for, well, viewing wildlife, but at night, it's beautiful." I glanced down at her with a reassuring smile. "Is that okay?"
"Of course."
"I can find someone with a boat if you'd like; I mean, they might even be better looking than me." I couldn't help but tease.
"Shut up." She smacked at my arm, and I couldn't help but grab her and pull her into me. I slammed my lips down onto hers again as we stood just before the spot I was taking us to. This time I gripped her hair in my hand, holding her in place. My tongue flicked against hers; our lips pressed firmly against each other. I pulled back to catch my breath, leaning my forehead down against hers.
"You're killing me, woman." With a kiss on her forehead, I turned her and guided her forward to the platform. I wanted her to see the view and avoid embarrassment with the growing bulge in my pants. I could hear her gasp as I adjusted myself as discreetly as possible.
"You can see... It's almost the entire lake. This is, there are no words. Wow." Once I had my situation under control, I stepped up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist. I rested my head on hers, feeling a wave of contentment wash over me. "You come here?"
"It's peaceful. I use the trail just back there to run sometimes, and then I'll end up here, just to clear my head and soak in the beauty, I guess." I explained.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For sharing it with me." Quinn sighed and leaned into me. "For kissing me like I've never been kissed before. For the date. Just thank you." She wiggled around, wrapping her arms around me this time, looking up at me with a sweet smile. I was putty in her hands; whatever she wanted, whatever she needed, after tonight, she would get it.
After we spent some time admiring the view, pointing out different constellations, and a few more kisses, we walked hand in hand back to the car. Both of us smiling like two fools. As I drove away from the lake, it was quiet in the car, and I couldn't stop thinking about how her lips felt with mine. My stomach churned a bit when someone else's face popped into my mind, though, and suddenly I wondered how in the hell I was going to share her with Wade.
