Carrie and I entered the house to find Grant relaxed in the recliner playing on his phone, and Wade laid out on the couch, hat pulled down over his face. I was sure he was nursing a painful hangover after how blitzed he was last night. We sat our haul down on the dining floor and made our way over to the guys.

"How ya feeling?" Carrie nudged Wade's leg causing him to grumble. He lifted his hat slowly, revealing his worn-out face that still looked ridiculously handsome.

"Like shit." He sat up slowly, making room for Carrie. I stood awkwardly at the end, arms crossed over my chest.

"Ready for our trip?" Grant smiled over at me.

"I think so. Carrie helped me gather more than I could possibly need." I made my way over to grab a glass of water when I heard Wade speak up.

"Hey, how did I not know you've been dating someone?" I turned my head quickly, thinking he was speaking to me, then realized he was speaking to Carrie.

"Because you've been caught up in your own misery. Jerk." She shoved at his legs.

"I'm sorry. I've been a shit friend. Are you happy?" Wade asked, sitting up and adjusting his cap. I stood listening to their conversation, having only heard about Carrie's girlfriend a few times. While they continued chatting, Grant stood, coming over to me.

"I brought the flight information and your passport; even though we don't need it, Mr. Asher wanted you to have it for any future travel." He handed me a folder from the table.

"Passport? International travel?" I questioned, looking over at him.

"Eventually, we have accounts with a few European countries. I'll pick you up around lunchtime, we'll be in Boston by dinner, and we'll go enjoy a fancy meal." He smiled.

"Thank you. You've been so good to me. I'm looking forward to it, I know it's work, but it'll be fun too."

"What's the secret conversation going on over here?" Carrie giggled, leaning into me.

"I'm taking Quinn out to dinner tomorrow night." Grant smiled. I watched as he looked over to Wade, watching with a smirk for a response. Wade looked over at us, wincing as he stood to join us.

"You've never had an assistant before, and now suddenly that you do, you have to travel with her?" Wade asked with a hateful undertone. I was surprised by his attitude but tried to brush it off. Carrie mumbled something at him before smacking his arm. I took the opportunity to take my things to my room and continue to arrange my suitcase.

"Ignore him. He's jealous." Carrie spoke, coming into the room and sitting next to me on the floor where I was organizing my bag.

"Oh, it's okay. I just...I hate feeling like this is all just a big handout. Maybe he's right? I'm not really needed. I don't like feeling like I'm a charity case." I leaned back against the bed, pulling my knees up and wrapping my arms around them.

"Mr. Asher is a generous man and takes care of his employees for sure. He does not, however, hire individuals for the sole purpose of charity. He wouldn't be sending you if he didn't believe that you were an asset to the deal Grant is working on. You're busting ass, and it's noticed."

I nodded at her with a smile. She was quickly becoming my best friend, and I hoped I wasn't getting too attached prematurely. Rex had already popped back up, reminding me of my dysfunctional life and how fast things could change for me.
