Molly didn't remember how she and the others got to the police station. All she could see anytime she closed her eyes was Randy's blood-splattered face and his unseeing eyes. She barely remembered when Sidney Prescott came walking in with her bodyguards and Cotton Weary in handcuffs. And that had only been about ten minutes ago.
Sidney had been told the news about Randy, and she burst into tears almost immediately. She took the seat in the offices right next to Molly, where Gale had previously been holding the girl's hands, and cuddled up at her side, which the other girl reciprocated gratefully.
According to Sidney, Cotton Weary had approached her at the library right after she got a threatening message on her computer from the killer, and that their conversation had gotten heated and a bit violent. So that's why Cotton was currently in the Chief's office being interrogated.
"It shouldn't have been Randy..." Sidney muttered to herself, rubbing her head. "It should've been me."
Dewey shook his head at her. "No-"
"I should call his mother." Sidney sat up.
"Sid..." Dewey said. "Molls already made that call."
Sidney looked down at the girl by her side. Molly had her arms folded on the table, her chin sat inside of them, showing only her nose up. Her face was red and blotchy from crying so much, and her eyes were extremely bloodshot. And trails of new and old tears still showed on her face. The girl was a mess.
At the sound of Cotton's raised voice from the Chief's officer, Sidney and Dewey turned their heads slightly.
"...so until you find me standing over a dead body with a knife in my hand..."
A quiet, raspy whine came from Molly, and her friends looked back to see she'd closed her eyes, new tears spilling. Sidney's hand moved to rest on her back, rubbing it as she became wracked with sobs once more.
Chief Hartley came walking out of his office, looking put off. Dewey jumped up from his seat to speak with him.
"What's going on?" Dewey asked.
"We have to let him go." Hartley said, sighing.
"Why?"
"We don't have anything on him."
They turned their heads as Cotton practically strutted out of the office, side eyeing them as he began to sign his release papers. He happened to glance over and find Gale standing by the breakroom door, watching him.
"Gale," he said, pretending to be surprised she was involved with the other incident. "Enjoying the show? The cops are funny."
"What do you think you're doing?" Gale said, scowling at him.
"Waiting for my Fifteen Minutes of Fame." He told her. "You can understand that, can't you, Gale?"
Gale sighed and walked up to him. "Don't do anything stupid, Cotton." She warned.
Cotton tskd. "Gale, you were so instrumental in my freedom. You're not having character doubts now, are you?" He smirked down at the reporter before walking away. As he passed Sidney's table he pulled out a card and set it on the table. "Sidney, if you change your mind." He said. Then he looked down at Molly's unusually small form, so different from how he'd seen her the morning before. So different from the girl he remembered from Woodsboro. "And, Molly, I'm sorry for your loss."
Molly didn't look up at him. "Piss off." She said, spit flying unintentionally due to her crying. With her throat raw and swelled from screaming and wailing, it came out as a quiet rasp full of hatred and solemnity.
