James and I walk down the hallways of the Richard Rogers hand in hand. I can't keep a smile off my face. Even though we have just started out dating a few weeks a ago it feels like an eternity has gone by.
"James do you think we should start telling people about us?" I ask
"I've been thinking the same thing I'd really like that," he says smiling down at me.
I give him a quick kiss and we part ways to get to our dressing rooms. I hear footsteps behind me "okay what the hell was that?" Jenn asks quizzically
"James and I," I gulp "are kind of a thing now," I reply
I see her straight face flip straight up into her enormous million dollar smile "Omg Idina that's awesome I wish you two the best," she says hugging me tightly. We tell other cast members soon after they're all supportive.
After the show is done I get home to an empty apartment since its Tayes weekend to have Walker. My jacket and shoes are placed in the closet.
My reflection in bathroom the mirror still haunts me even though I'm healing emotionally physically the scars are still there James may tell me how beautiful I am every day but I don't se it. I brush through my long raven locks and put them up into a messy bun. I then change into sweats and a sweatshirt and lay down in my bed.
(Dream)
"You deserve nothing you worthless bitch" I hear Taye scream as he hits me
"Taye please stop" I say guarding my body
"You cheated on me and need to be punished," he roars continuing the beating.
"No please I didn't do anything," I cry
(End of dream)
I wake up the sheets are completely messed up from me thrashing, tears are rolling down my face. I'm shaking and covered with cold sweat my breathing is labored. not thinking about it for two seconds I text James.asking him to come over. Before I knew it he is knocking on my door.
"Dee are you okay?" He asks wrapping me up in a hug.
"I-it was Taye h-he," I stammer melting into him
"It's okay baby it was just a dream Tayes not gonna hurt you anymore," He coos lifting me up bridal style and taking me back to the bedroom.
"Stay with me?" I whimper.
"I couldn't leave you ever sweet heart" He kisses my forehead I cuddle into him as he pulls the sheets over us. I glance at him and realize how lucky I am to have a man who'd come over in the middle of the night to calm me.
I wake up the next morning to the smell of coffee and pancakes in the kitchen. Then I notice James is out of bed. I make my way to the kitchen area and see James cooking up a storm "Good morning sleeping beauty," I says kissing me on the cheek.
"Good morning yourself," I laugh "Need any help?" I ask
"Nope you sit your pretty little self down and relax," He answers.
I watch him continuing to slave over our breakfast. He sets my plate next to me "Here you go I hope it's okay," he says. I take a forkful of eggs and shove it into my mouth. They're some of the best eggs I've ever tasted.
"I had no idea that you could cook," I say
"It's one of my many talents,"he smiles his dorkishly handsome smile and I melt inside.
We continue to talk over breakfast learning thins about each other we hadn't known before. I remain mesmerized by him talking until I hear a knock at the door. I jump a little knowing that it could very well be Taye.
I open the door only to see my ex-husband at the door with my son "Ummm I thought you were drooping him later on?" I ask
"I have stuff to do today," he tells me
"If by stuff you mean getting wasted with your little girlfriend and other buddies then maybe I should just have the courts take away all your parental rights period," I snap
"You have no right to do that," he snaps back.
"Oh well the American court system says other wise," I remark cocking an eyebrow back.
"Just take your son and leave me the hell alone," he huffs slamming the door.
"How are you baby boy," I ask my son who is now in my arms. "Did you have fun at Daddies house?" I ask him
"Yeah we played Dino's and stuff," he answered "but I missed your hugs and kisses," he sweetly says
"I missed giving you hugs and kisses," pepper his cute little face with kisses and squeeze him tightly
"Mommy why is James here?" He asks me.
Oh boy I begin to think I have a lot of explaining to do since Walker has no idea that James and I are together. I carefully choose my words "James and mommy are together the way Daddy and mommy used to be," I explain.
"Is he my new daddy then?" He innocently asks.
"No your daddy is still your daddy but if James and I stay together for a long, long time then he could be your step-daddy are you okay with that?," I tell him
"Okay mommy if you're happy," he says
"I love you Walk," I coo
"I love you too mama," he says back giving me a wet kiss on the cheek.
I smile as James walks over to us and we all huddle in close like a cheesy movie ending. I sigh and take in the preciousness of the moment.
