Chapter 2 ᯽ First Encounter

~Y/N's POV~

And, as General Shepard had said, the chopper was waiting for me, and I took in everything as I hopped in, ready to confront this so-called Task Force 141.

As soon as I stepped inside the helicopter, a refreshing air touched my face and body, cooling me down as I buckled myself and prepared for a long flight.

I felt a wave of fatigue strike me after we took flight in the air, so I slowly closed my eyes and allowed myself to fall asleep.

A faint alarm could be heard in the distance as I dozed off, jolting my brain in all the appropriate places and attempting to trigger my fight-or-flight response. And as soon as I realized that the beeping was not a part of any dream but rather the current reality, I felt my body jerk awake and get ready to fight or spring into action. But when I realized it had been hours since we took off and we had finally made it to base, my stiff body progressively relaxed.

I noticed we were in a rural region when I looked out the window next to me. Although it appeared to be mostly abandoned, I could make out a few buildings in the distance, which I thought were used for further training of some kind. I unbuckled myself as soon as the heli completely touched down on the ground, made sure to gather my belongings, and then got ready to meet the individuals I would be working with.

When I stepped out of the heli, I could almost immediately feel the difference in temperature; it was much warmer here, which I didn't mind. I took in the rest of my surroundings when I noticed a man standing and staring at me out of the corner of my eye.

The man had soft-looking eyes and a beard, but I turned my attention to him because I could see that he was a formidable opponent. Although I was still unsure of his identity and he did not pose a threat to me, I deduced that he must be the so-called Captain which Shepherd had been referring to as I cautiously approached him.

I turned to face him at that point and as I moved closer to him and made eye contact with him, he smiled and said, "Y/N Y/L/N, as you probably already suspect, I'm Captain John Price, and it's a joy to finally meet you." He extended his hand for a handshake, which I accepted and returned with a slight smile while saying, "The pleasure is all mine, sir."

"Now you must be wondering just what your duty here is, is that correct?"

"Yes, sir," I said as I nodded and quickly glanced beyond him to check whether he was the only person outside the facility. It appeared that he was, so I thought the others were inside.

"My men and I had been looking for some missiles that had gone missing just a few months ago. We were required by General Shepard's orders to locate those missiles right away. Unfortunately, on our most recent mission, we fell into a trap set by someone we still do not know, despite finally gathering more information about the person or individuals who might be responsible for all of this. A handful of my men were harmed, and we lost the proof. We believe that those guys were keeping a close check on us, that somehow they learned of our plans, and that they were then dispatched to attack us in an attempt to eliminate us."

I nodded, taking everything in as the Captain continued, "We're working on a case right now to discover the guys that tried to kill us that day, and we need you to take them out as we get the information in our hands once more."

"You can count on me, sir," I realized right away that this assignment could take some time to complete, but I was prepared for the task.

"Let's introduce you to the rest of the crew," he said with a smile and a nod of approval. I walked closely behind him as he indicated he was going to enter the base.

I observed that we were moving directly toward what I took to be his office as we entered the building.

He finally stopped at the end of a long hallway, knocked twice, and then opened the door. I waited outside for him to tell me whether or not I should go inside, and I overheard him say, "Gentlemen, welcome the newest addition to the team, Y/N Y/L/N."
