Chapter 58
closeOpening her eyes, Y/n was met with the beautiful sight of orange and pink skies. The sun beginning to set as the day slowly turned to night. She didn't even realize she had cried herself to sleep oddly enough, missing out on the entire day.
She cursed herself under her breath, knowing that now it'd be impossible for her to sleep at night.
Looking to her right she seen some of Leif's men talking amongst themselves, when she turned her head the opposite direction she was met with the sight with the Ketils broken family.
Ketil didn't dare to look at neither of his sons, clearly still having trouble taking in the situation he was in right now. It appeared Thorgil had changed into spare clothes lent to him, as he was now splashing water on his face to wash away the blood. Then there was Olmar who stared down at his hands with a deep frown, Y/n knowing the feeling he was probably experiencing.
It was hard to stomach killing a man for the first time, and it was a feeling no one should become familiar with.
Feeling eyes burning into her when she looked up she seen Thorgil running a finger through his slightly damp blond locks. His tongue traced over the scar on his lip as if he were deep in thought, Y/n watching as he rolled up his sleeve. She could only furrow her brows slightly in confusion when he began approaching her, the two maintaining eye contact.
Sitting down in front of her on top of a barrel, since Y/n was sitting on the ground this forced her to look up at him. Not as if that were anything different, as she always had to look up at the giant man.
"What are you doing here?" He spoke in a gruff voice, Y/n breaking eye contact to turn her head away and face the calm sea.
"I could ask you the same thing." She replied, not wanting to entertain a conversation. That and the fact she never ever planned on telling Thorgil of all people any of her personal business.
"You know why we're here." Thorgil scoffed, "hell, I bet that's why you're on this boat." The man said, crossing his arms over his chest. Leif who sat distanced from them couldn't help but give the two a look of concern, he wasn't sure about the relationship between the two but he could already tell Y/n wasn't very fond of the company.
"You're right I do know why you're here." Y/n shrugged her shoulders, folding her arm over the side of the ship she rested her head on the ledge. "But I have nothing to do with it, you should be thanking me."
"And why's that."
"If I was there things wouldn't have gone your way, Thorgil."
Thorgil clicked his tongue, knowing exactly what Y/n was implying. Keeping himself level headed he bit back a spew of misogynist insults.
"Why're you fleeing the king? Aren't you his right hand man?"
The only thing Y/n didn't mind about Thorgil was his directness, he didn't beat around the bush or create awkward small talk to slowly ease his way into popping the question. He was bold and didn't waste any time.
"I'm not running away." Was all Y/n said, "and shouldn't you be comforting your brother or something? Or your dad? He looks like he's ready to throw himself overboard any minute now."
At the mention of his brother and father Thorfil spared them a glance, cringing at the sight of his brother moping around.
"Thorgil.. Do you even love your family?"
Turning his head back to Y/n's figure he was surprised to see her eyes were back on him. The man started at her with furrowed brows, his lips turning to a frown. He almost seemed offended by the question, yet didn't utter a word in response.
