Zoya looked at the file in her hand that had all the details about the company, TaskMaster. The company where her ex-husband worked. The company that she was asked to take over. She read the file and came to know that their profit had been deteriorating ever since the owner of the company had handed it over to his daughter, Labia Aziz. As soon as Zoya read her name, she recognised her. She was the woman Rizwan had an affair with.

Zoya opened google on her MacBook and searched Labia Aziz. Since their company was a relatively smaller one, Google didn’t have much information about her. But Zoya found her Instagram profile. She opened it, and there was Rizwan in almost every picture. She scrolled down till she found a picture of Labia and Rizwan’s wedding. It was dated three years ago, just a month after their divorce.

Zoya shut her laptop and looked at the file on her desk. She knew that she could refuse to go, and would not have to face her past. But why would she do that? Just because her ex-husband would be there. Why should she go back on her word that she would go for the deal just because of him? He wasn’t that relevant to her. In fact, he was not at all relevant to her. She would do her job just the way she was supposed to, and it didn’t matter if he was involved in it.

That night, Zoya walked out of her building elevator and was about to ring the bell of her home,  but her eyes fell on the carton boxes kept outside the apartment beside hers. She rang her doorbell while eyeing the other apartment, 509.

“How was your day?” Malti asked as soon as opened the door.

Zoya smiled tiredly. “Where is Sehru?”

“Sleeping.”

Zoya frowned. “Why so early? Is she fine?”

Malti nodded. “I took her to the park today and she played hide and seek with some children. So she got so tired after coming back that she went to bed early.”

“Okay,” Zoya took off her heels and filled a glass of water. “Whose cartons are those outside?”

“A new tenant moved into the next apartment. It must be all his stuff.” Malti informed her.

“Okay, I will change and then let's have dinner. I am famished.”

“Aarti sent biryani. I will heat it.” Malti said after her, making Zoya grin. She loved biryani, but since she wasn’t a good cook, she was never able to make biryani without messing up. Malti was the one who cooked every meal, but her biryani skills were not great either. So she mostly ordered biryani from restaurants or relied on Aarti.

After having dinner, Malti also retired to her bedroom. Zoya made herself a cup of green tea and went to her favorite balcony. She had picked out the most comfortable couch for this place, and a cute small table. It was also decorated with many plants. She started her day with tending to those plants, and ended her nights while relaxing on the couch, reading novels or finishing up her office work. Today, she was working.
