Zena's POV

Mum and I decided to spend the night in the Hamptons. We also decided to extend our trip a day since it was already the weekend. Mum and I were to go to an aquarium, but she needed to grab something from her room. She told me to wait a second while she grabbed her watch.

I've been sitting on the couch for what felt like forever, but has probably been like 5 mins. That's really weird. She puts her watch in the same spot everyday, so what's the hold up? I got bored, so I journeyed in the direction of her room. My footsteps slowed since I could hear voices the closer I got to her room.

I stopped short of her room and craned my neck around the corner. My eyes widened at witnessing mum speak with Matt. What's he doing here? And why are they speaking in hushed voices?

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Mum hissed at him.

"I understand your anger and distrust-"

"Did you forget what you did to my family?!"

"Ya, I remember. Listen... there's confounding evidence-"

"Matt, I don't work for you anymore." Mum cut him off. "For one, I'm retired. And two, not after everything you did against my family. I'd never work for you again, asshole."

"This is important, so you need to grow up and approach this as a mature-"

"Matthew!" She hissed. "My child is here and you broke into my house!"

"Not broke in... just entered without your knowledge-"

"Oh, I had knowledge. That's why I ditched my kid downstairs to confront you. You hid your scent well, but-"

"You knew something was amiss. That just proves how talented you are." He proudly smiled at her. "Tell me... what gave it away?"

"The salt and pepper shakers were an inch too wide apart." Mum sighed. "Now, can you leave?"

"Not until you listen. I need your help."

"You're insane if you believe-"

"There's a mole. He's a double agent and working with the vampires-"

"Matthew, out!" Mum pointed out the window.

"He's working with Geneve." Mum's hands formed fists as she snapped her head in the direction of the window. "He's aiding her. Now, we don't know if he's a werewolf or not, but he lives in pack territory. I know you hate me and want to kill me-"

"Understatement of the century." Mum spoke through gritted teeth.

"She's causing discord amongst other packs in North America. My thought is that she's trying to divide and conquer before taking over this realm."

"What about the guy?" Mum gripped the doorframe in frustration.

"That's why I need your help. We find him and question."

"Question or torture?" Mum sighed.

"Whatever gives us the better result." Matt responded. "So you in, Mia?"

"Matt, do you understand that Lara would kill me?" She whispered. "After everything you did... and for me to work with you? You nearly got her killed. You framed me as the bait that captured her. She was sent to prison and... I never asked because she never talked about it. But, I don't know if she was sexually assaulted. And it'd be my fault." My gasp caught their attention. Mum's eyes widened in panic.

"Cats out of the bag." Matt commented as he stared at me. "Might as well bring her in."

"Absolutely not!" Mum snapped.
