—————————————————————"Up again, my love?" Severus's velvet voice asked in a low, soothing tone.
Ten long years had passed since the second wizarding world war.
For Severus Snape, that time had been nothing but beauty and peace.
He had finally found love in the arms of his old enemy, Harriet Potter.
The couple had married and mated.
Their love had even helped usher a new life into the world.
Severus's heart had broken, swelled, and exploded the second he heard that sharp, little cry ring out in their bedroom.
Harriet had still been clutching his hand while the midwife tended her, but he couldn't help the slack-jawed expression of awe that had formed on his pale face the instant he found himself staring down into a tiny set of bright, green eyes.
......Wondrously familiar, yet entirely different.
Harriet glanced up when she heard Severus call and smiled as she saw her husband standing in the nursery's doorway.
"Yeah....third time tonight. Hopefully once she's done, she'll sleep a bit longer before she cries again." She yawned.
The room was silent except for the happy little snuffles that came from the pink baby at Harriet's breast.
Severus's black eyes glimmered with devoted softness as he glided forward and knelt in front of his wife while she sat in the rocking chair next to their daughter's cot.
Harriet smiled tiredly as she stroked her husband's soft locks with her free hand.
Severus's dark eyes flickered over her and their baby.
She had been delighted that their daughter had inherited Severus's raven-black hair, though the baby still only had fuzzy tufts on her tiny head.
"Her birth was barely a week ago, my love." Severus frowned as he gazed at Harriet, "Though I am fascinated by the sight of you two, you should have heeded my request and stayed in bed. I would have gladly assisted you."
"There's not much you can do here, Sev." Harriet chuckled as she glanced down at their nursing daughter.
"I could bring her to you and let you lay in your nest." He frowned.
Harriet yawned again after she took her hand from his hair and whispered, "It's alright......I rest most of the day, it's good for me to move around a bit.....Besides, you need your sleep too."
"I am accustomed to long nights." Severus commented as he gazed at their small daughter.
The flawlessness of her tiny cheek shattered his soul as she placed a miniature hand on the side of her mother's soft, plump breast.
"She is so very beautiful, my love." Severus sighed as he furrowed his brow at their baby.
"Yeah......" Harriet smiled as she glanced down, "......She is."
Severus met Harriet's green gaze as she opened her mouth to speak, "Sev, about her name.....I was thinking we could call her-"
Before she could get her words out, chiming bells sounded from across Hogsmeade as cheers and shouts were heard from the street outside their humble cottage.
"....Midnight already." Severus concluded as he and Harriet glanced at the closed window in the direction of the noise then back at each other.
"Happy New Year, Sev." Harriet smiled.
"Happy New Year, Mrs. Snape." Severus purred.
She closed her green eyes as he leaned in and pressed a gentle, sincere kiss against her lips.
Harriet looked forward to raising her daughter with the man she loved.
As the wizarding world's most unlikely couple anticipated another year of joy, Harriet couldn't help but delight in how delicious her alpha tasted.
She hoped that by the next New Year's Eve, they'd be preparing to give their daughter a sibling.
