Chapter 2: Seeking Recruits

As Commander Abraham entered G.U.N. HQ he was greeted by 2nd Lieutenant Topaz. "Sir, are you sure that letting Dr. Eggman go? Both local pd and G.U.N. soldiers are stretched thin trying to rally the protesters and subdue the riots."

Abraham let out an exhausted groan as he sat down in his office chair "I know, I fear Sonic is becoming a bad influence on me. Non than less we plan for everything, which is where you come in. Topaz, I need you to recruit new agents on the field. If we are to have Eggman under wraps, Team Dark isn't going to be enough, especially if we're sending them on other missions."

Topaz stood at attention and saluted Abraham "Yes Sir!" She then turned heel and exited the office to fulfill her duty.

Closing the door behind her, Topaz fished her phone out from her pocket and hastily dialed a number. Her face lit up when the other end picked up "Hey, Commander has asked me to find up new operatives. By chance do you have any leads on anyone who fits the bill?

"I have a few leads, yeah." The person on the other line spoke.

"You do? Perfect!"

"Yeah, just head over to my workshop and I can give you the details in full."

"I'll be on my way." Topaz hung up the phone and hastily made her way to the parking garage where she entered a red Honda Accord and drove off to meet with the person she just spoke with.

After an hour and a half drive from Central City to just north of Restoration HQ, Topaz finally pulled into the driveway of the aforementioned workshop.

The workshop looks like a lively home with tan bricks and a brick red roof. Off to the side was a water wheel along with some tesla coils.

Topaz pounded on the door hoping it was loud enough to pierce through the mechanical sounds within the house.

The sounds of a impact drill suddenly stops and is then followed by a loud crash. Just then the door violently swung open to reveal Tails the Fox, who was caked in grease and soot "Ah, you're here! I was working on those prototype energy rifles Abraham asked for, along with some other gadgets and gizmos."

Topaz smiled at the boy-genius "Well I'm certain that Commander Towers would be please with the results. But on another note, the operative leads?"

Tails eyes widened as he realized why she was her "Oh yeah, yeah, come on in." Tails then stepped aside allowing Topaz to enter.

Inside was an absolute mess. Upon entering the house, Topaz quickly noticed how cluttered it was. The living room was vast but with the larger table in the center and the computer with three massive monitors towards the back it seemed cramped already. What aided in the mess was all the tools and mechanical part strewn about the place.

The table had, what appeared to be a rifle, on top of it with wires connecting to some glowing parts along with a soldering iron and a welding mask.

On the left computer monitor was the schematics of the rifle's internals along with some formulas and notes. Her attention then focused to the center screen where Tails opened up a folder with a few files on it.

Tails grabbed a chair and sat down facing Topaz. "So, I have two people in mind that could potentially work out quite easily. The third not so much. Mighty and Ray, last I remember they were treasure hunting. Ray is more of a follower than a leader so your goal is to convince Mighty to join."

Topaz nodded as Tails continued to explain how to recruit the duo.

"Mighty has a sister, Matilda. She's currently living in the more rundown area of Seaside City. Often taking odd jobs here and there to make rent. Want the duo to join, promise Mighty to aid his sister. Weather it be living space, financial aid, or even a stable job."

Topaz was jotting notes down on her phone "tell me more about them. Start with Matilda."

Tails nodded as he continued "Much like her brother, she posses amazing strength. Her armadillo shell is incredibly tough. This allows Mighty to be able to spin dash through objects Me, Knuckles, and Sonic can't normally. Matilda is also a very hard worker, seeing as she's currently working three jobs to make rent. That's about all I have on her."

Again Topaz nodded to let Tails know she was following along. "Mighty, please."

With a clear of his throat Tails continued. "Mighty, again, has incredible strength that quite honestly rivals Knuckles. His shell is very durable, and he is trained in boxing. At least that's what Ray told me. He's pretty easy going, almost seen as a pacifist, but don't let that fool you. Mighty isn't one to back down from a fight, I once saw him and Knuckles spar for three days straight! Only for it to end in a draw with both of them collapsing from exhaustion!"

"Incredibly strong... Easy going..." Topaz murmured to herself while taking her notes. "Okay, you said IF I can get Mighty to join, Ray will join also?"

"Yeah. Ray is an ace pilot. Trained him myself." The fox boasted smugly.

Looking up from her phone, Topaz skimmed through the documents opened on the computer "It says Ray is a flying squirrel."

A nerves chuckle escaped Tails "Well he can fly naturally, but I did train him to operate air crafts. Mostly my biplane though."

"No worries, I'm sure you can train him in piloting other aircrafts. Now this third operative you had in mind?"

Tails turned back to the computer to minimize Mighty and Ray's files and opened the third one "Sticks the Badger. Not much is known, but Sonic and I once ran into her in Mystic Jungle. She has to be fast, agile, and strong to even live there. Especially considering that a giant snake lives there. However as fast as we met her, she disappeared into the jungle. So good luck trying to track her."

Hearing that the boy genius had a hard time tracking down this badger baffled her "You couldn't find her? Even with your drones and gadgets?"

Tails shook his head in defeat "The jungle is thick, and every time I deploy a drone they suddenly disappear. My guess is something is destroying them. And it's not just my drones, G.U.N. and Eggman also had a hard time trying to scan the jungle. That's why Eggman's base was in the less dense areas."

"Alright, thank you Tails, this helps alot!" She flashed him a smile before she took her leave. She entered her car and headed for Seaside City.
