Walking Through the Time Capsule

Chapter 15

Niall...

As my eyes opened to the sound of annoying knocking, I couldn't help but feel the painful slap of deja vu.

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" I heard Harry shout from his room.

I groaned and rolled my eyes, not feeling like having another shouting showdown, and got out of my bed. If Louis was seriously hammering on our door at nine AM for the second damn day in a row, I was literally going to kill him. I marched down the hall towards the obnoxious banging.

"I swear to God, Louis, I'm gonna- Melanie?" I flung open the door and tilted my head to the side in confusion.

"Hi." She mumbled and waved awkwardly.

"Uh...what are you doing here?" I asked equally as awkward. I immediately felt embarrassed as I realized I was standing there in my boxers. "Um, come in and...make yourself at home. Just give me a second." She slipped past me, and I shut the door behind her before running to my room.

I threw on a pair of dark blue sweatpants, and a white shirt that had 'poison' written backwards on it. I left my room and walked down the hall to Harry's room, peaking my head into the darkness. God, this apartment had some nice ass curtains. "There's a female human here so exit your room appropriately." I joked, causing him to chuckle at my choice of words.

When I walked back out to the main living room area, Melanie was sitting on the couch as her eyes wandered around her surroundings. I cleared my throat to make my presence known, and she jumped slightly. I sat down on the couch across from her, and we both silently stared at each other, tension filling the room. I knew exactly why she came here, and she knew I knew why she came here. We were both waiting for the other to speak up first.

"So..." She trailed off.

"So." I copied.

She rubbed the back of her neck and averted her eyes to the ground before sighing and slumping her shoulders. "Listen, Niall, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything I said. I was just worried and scared and hurt by this whole situation, and I took it out on you which wasn't fair cause it's not your fault." She paused, seeming like she was waiting for me to interrupt, but she continued when I didn't. "It was wrong of me to do that when you were already still so affected and susceptible to people's thoughts and words. And for me to dig the knife in deeper was, well, really bitchy of me. And I'm sorry." She timidly looked up into my eyes through her eye lashes. "Can you forgive me?"

I acted like I was thinking about it, and I could feel her getting more nervous by the second. "I don't know, Melanie. It really hurt what you said..." I milked it. "I just don't know if I can forgive you." I lied.

Her face contorted and she looked completely crushed. Her eyes watered and even though I knew it was wrong, I couldn't help it. I already forgave her the day after it happened, but being the hilariously cruel friend I am, I couldn't miss the opportunity to prank her with the given moment.

I put on the best poker face I could muster. "But, maybe there is one way I can find myself to forgive you."

She sat up a little straighter and hope radiated from her. "What? What is it? I'll do anything."

I smirked internally, but remained straight faced. "Well, if you insist." I spoke slowly. "Do you think you can list my best features and qualities so I can boost my confidence?"
