Walking Through the Time Capsule
Chapter 44

Niall...
"Will somebody please tell me what's going on?" Annabelle demanded as we basically dragged her out of the water. I couldn't even think of a logical thing to say to her right now, my mind was too fuzzed with anger.
She continued to fight against me, demanding someone tell her who Nick was, but I just picked her up over my shoulder and started walking to the car. All I knew was I wanted her away from this beach and home. She could have her answers later.
Liam, Louis and Eleanor went to go get our stuff to put in the other car, and everyone else rushed to my car with me.
"We need to get out of here, now." Melanie said, running to the car alongside me.
"You think I don't know that?" I snapped.
"Why? What's going on? Put me down, Niall!" She yelled, clearly frustrated.
"I'll tell you when we're home." I said, rushed, as I plopped her down on the passenger seat and raced around to the drivers side.
"Seriously, you guys are freaking me out, what's the problem? We've only been at the beach for a couple hours, I wanted to stay longer."
"Not right now, Annabelle." I said through gritted teeth. I didn't want her to think my anger was towards her, cause it was by no means not, but I was so enraged that I didn't know how long it was going to be before I snapped at someone. And I surely didn't want her to be the person that got snapped at.
The five minute drive back up the street to our house was silent. Everyone in the car was tense and afraid to speak, and I'm sure everyone in Louis' car was the same. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, everyone piled out of the car. However, before I reached the front door, I noticed Annabelle wasn't there. I turned back to the car to see she was still planted in the front seat, staring blankly through the windshield. The closer I got to the car, the more clearly I could see tears rolling down her face, breaking my heart.
I leaned down and reached my hand through the open window, brushing her wet hair away out of her eyes. "Darlin'..." I whispered, gaining her attention.
She turned to stare at me with her wide, watery eyes. "I'm scared."
The simplicity of her words were so vulnerable, and I could feel my heart seize in pain. "Oh, Princess, come on. Let's go inside." When I pulled open the car door, something inside of her snapped. The silent tears became soft cries, and she jumped up into my arms. I stood there and held her as she found comfort in me. My anger had long subsided, and I just felt pure guilt and sadness for keeping these dangerous secrets from her.
"Let's go inside." I repeated gently, wanting to be hidden behind the safety of our house.
The moment we stepped inside, we walked into chaos, making Annabelle cling onto me tighter. Everyone was freaking out at the fact that she actually had an encounter with the danger we'd been trying so hard to hide her from.
"We have to do something about this."
"We can't just let this go."
"We have to tell her."
"No way! That will scar her so badly."
"Guys!" I silenced the room. "Melanie is right. No more secrets."
