Chapter 53

Niall...

"It's been three fucking weeks, we are mid way through July, and no one has found anything." I seethed at the police chief, struggling to keep my voice leveled.

"We're doing the best we can." He said calmly, looking very understanding at the way I was acting.

"Well it's not good enough." I snapped, wanting nothing more than to throw everything in this man's damn office, including this man.

"Niall, calm down."

"Don't fucking start with me, Harry." I growled at him. He was my partner for the day, and I demanded that we came straight here to figure out why in the hell we were getting nowhere.

"I'm just saying, Niall." He put his hands up in defense. "You're not gonna be able to think straight, all riled up like that."

"Sorry." I huffed. Turning back to Chief Robertson. "I'm just...not seeing any progress." I scrambled for words.

"I understand your anger with this, Niall. But I assure you we are trying our best." He explained.

"I know." I mumbled, suddenly feeling sadness rush in. "It's just that, her birthday is in a week and a half. She spent her last birthday in a coma, and the five birthdays before that being beaten." I cracked, feeling a lump of tears forming. "I don't want her to spend another birthday like this."

The head of the police department shifted his face into a sad frown. "I'm sorry, Niall, I truly am. We'll get her back before then." He stood up, leaving the room quickly to go join the search.

"Niall...we should get going." Harry softly whispered from the door when he realized I was a fist clenching statue in the middle of the room. The office of the police department was at a high enough level that I was able to look out at the vast and huge city.

Where are you, Annabelle?

Briskly wiping my tears, I rushed out of the door, refusing to meet Harry's eyes, and got in the elevator.

"We'll find her, Niall." Harry whispered, stepping in beside me.

"Everyone keeps saying that, yet no one's found her yet." I said bitterly. "I just want everyone to stop with the words of bullshit wisdom, and just fucking find her." My voice cracked again, betraying the desperate anger behind my words.

If I knew her well enough, which I sure did, I knew that she got over being angry with me. Knowing how she is, she probably was over it as soon as she had gotten down the street. Wherever she was, I know she was without a doubt scared, and wanted me to save her. She said that was all she wanted all those years, so this was no different. I refused to let her down this time.

"We're going to drive through West Hollywood again today. We've gotten reports of some suspicious locations that we're going to scope out." Chief Robertson informed us as we stepped into his police car. He offered to personally take Harry and I with him today.

"Sounds good." Harry chirped, letting his positivity shine.

Every one of us had taken a different path of coping through this situation, and we quickly learned how to deal with, and approach, each other in different situations. Liam and Zayn were the neutral mediators. They were tactical and managed to keep their emotions hidden away so they could focus on the task of finding her. They basically got the lucky end of the stick when it came to emotions.
