Niall...
"Niall Horan and friends." The officer at the desk called us over from our spot in the waiting room. "Last door on the left." He pointed.
It was bright and early, eight in the morning, and we came to the police station in Malibu. Everyone was up with the inability to sleep, so we thought we'd get an early start on the day.
When we were getting ready to leave this morning, I realized I dumbly shredded apart our evidence in my rage last night. With the help of Liam, we fished the pieces out of the rubbish, and taped it together. Every time my eyes swept over her unconscious face in the picture, I felt another stab to the heart.
Eleanor politely knocked on the door, before we heard a gruff 'come in' from the police chief. We all shuffled into the room anxiously. There were only two chairs across from the man's desk, so everyone let Melanie and I sit down, while they all stood behind us.
"Sorry I don't have any more chairs." He chuckled humorously, surprised at the large group of seven people who now occupied his office. He was obviously trying to be funny and light hearted, but by seeing the misery and exhaustion on all of our faces, he became serious as he sat up straight.
"What's the problem, kids?" He asked, not sounding mocking with the way he referred to us as kids.
"Our friend has been...kidnapped." Melanie stuttered, clearly trying to hold back tears.
Before he even spoke, I already knew what he was going to say.
"How long ago was this? Are you sure she didn't run off somewhere and not return?" He sounded bored as if this was an everyday occurrence.
Yup, I knew it.
"No, sir." I refrained from rolling my eyes. "She was taken last night, and we need your help to find her, please." I didn't hold back my desperation, hoping he would take this more seriously.
"You keep saying and assuming she was taken." He said bluntly.
"Because she was." Harry took a more stern approach.
"Look, kids. Come back later tonight when it's reached the twenty four hour point. We can't file a missing persons report until then." He leaned back in his chair, shuffling through papers in an uninterested fashion.
"What a bullshit rule." I heard Louis mumble directly behind me, luckily not catching the ear of the uniformed chief.
"But she's not just missing, she was kidnapped." Eleanor said desperately.
"Kids, listen-"
"No, you listen." Louis snapped, hardcore losing his cool. "First of all, we're not kids. We're all over eighteen. I'm fucking twenty four. We're all adults here, we're not kids. So stop calling us kids." Louis has always hated being belittled. "We know for a fact she was taken, we know exactly who took her, and you are going to help us, now." He demanded, keeping his voice leveled although the anger was evident in it.
The chief sat up straight again, clearly shocked at how he was just spoken to. We all nervously held our breath, praying Louis didn't just get himself arrested. American police are much different, and we didn't know what the limits of aggression were considered to be.
"Well, a grown man with that kind of determination deserves full respect, doesn't he?" He joked, not seeming mad at all.
"Absolutely right, sir." Louis said, causing us all to sigh in relief.
