Walking Through the Time Capsule
Chapter 60

Niall...
"Did you get it all?" Melanie asked, quickly standing up as Louis, Harry and I walked through the doors of the waiting room.
I scanned the area to see her, Liam, Zayn and Eleanor all crowding around, indicating no one was in Annabelle's room. "Yeah, we got it all."
In roughly thirty minutes, midnight would approach. Meaning, in thirty minutes, it would be Annabelle's twentieth birthday.
"Do you need help carrying anything?" Zayn asked, gesturing to the three of our full hands.
"Yeah, here." Louis said, passing some balloons over. "I can't see where I'm going with these bloody things in my face." He complained.
"Well, the doctor gave us the clear, so we're good to go in." Eleanor said, grabbing a large shopping bag from my hands. "Let's get a move on."
In the past two days, since she was found, she actually made quite a bit of progress. She still hadn't woken up from her coma, sadly, but her breathing had strengthened from when she first arrived. They took her off the oxygen mask, exchanging it for the tubes in her nose just in case, and moved her out of the ICU last night. That made us all so relieved to know that she was not considered to be critical condition anymore. In the new ward, we were all allowed to be in the room at the same time.
With that being said, this morning we decided to put together a little birthday party in her room. Even though she wasn't awake, she could still hear us, so technically she'd be aware of what was going on. After the nightmare that occurred last year with me almost, you know, jumping to my death, we thought it would be nice to do something this year. My heart was much less heavy than it was last time. If I wasn't such an idiot before, we probably would've done this. I still wish she didn't have to spend a second birthday in a row in this terrible condition, but we were hoping to make it a little better this way. To be honest, I think the whole party idea was for us, so we would feel less depressed about her being in another coma.
Either way, here we were, a bunch of sad, young adults, carrying stuff for a makeshift birthday party through a hospital.
We bought a bunch of balloons at the store. A couple said 'get well soon', while the majority said 'happy birthday', along with various Disney characters. Harry made a big thing of her favorite baked mac and cheese, while Louis and I picked up a large pizza and a cake. We got a few other cool decorations to put around the room too, hoping to mask some of the depressing hospital vibes.
It wasn't much, but it was enough. Like I said, this was more to cheer us up.
I would love it if Annabelle woke up today. All I wanted was to tell her I loved her, and that I was sorry, and for her to actually respond and tell me it was okay.
I doubted it though. The doctor said he predicted at least another week or two before she woke up.
Liam, who was leading the way, opened the door to her room. As we all filed in, the first thing I noticed was how much bigger this room was. I didn't put too much thought into it as my eyes quickly found her. I couldn't help but give a small, sad smile. She looked exactly the same as she did the first moment she arrived here, bruised, battered, and broken.
Her skin was still sickly pale, and littered with cuts and bruises. The only thing that changed was her face. Instead of being swollen, it had now sunken in, hollowing around her cheek bones. It made her look even more sick and broken. As much as it hurt me inside, I still felt the thin pulse of happiness course through me.
