Chapter 21

Niall...

"So, what's the verdict?" Harry asked dramatically as he stared me down for a reaction.

I took another bite of the new chicken recipe he made that he was making me try. "It's pretty good actually." I said after a very long, dramatic pause.

"Phew, I was worried you'd hate it." He sighed.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I answered it with a mouth full of chicken. "Ello?"

"Hey, Niall, we have got a mission for you." Eleanor's voice rung in my ear.

"A mission? What kind of mission?" I asked suspiciously.

"Annabelle just left the house for a walk."

"By herself? At ten at night?!" I barked. "Why would you let her do that?" My protective nature over her was raging. "Don't you know what kind of shit happens around here at night?!"

"Don't yell at me!" She snapped back. "What were we supposed to do, pin her down? She wanted some space so we let her have it." She took a calming breath. "That's why I'm calling you."

"You want me to follow her around and keep an eye on her." I said for her.

"Basically, yes."

"How long ago did she leave?" I asked, standing up to get my shoes on.

"About ten minutes ago. She said she was headed to the ice cream parlor."

"Alright, she should be there in a few minutes then. I'll keep an eye and make sure she gets home safe."

"Call if something happens." She said before hanging up.

"Where ya headed?" Harry asked from the living room.

"Out. I'll call you." I said quickly, slipping out the door.

Since our apartment was closer to town than the house was, I got to the place in about a five minute walk. She wasn't there when I arrived, so I ordered a cup of mint chocolate ice cream, and sat in the booth in the corner. I kept the door in my eye line, and waited. When she didn't get there at the time she was meant to get there time wise, I figured she had taken another pit stop. But, when fifteen whole minutes went by, my anxiety skyrocketed.

Where is she?

I left the shop and stood on the corner.  Where on earth could she be? My options were limited, seeing as I didn't know the area enough, so she could have gone anywhere. I tried to ignore the bad feeling in my stomach. I played it off as me just being a nervous and over protective boyfriend. Not that I could even call myself that anymore. I just let my intuition lead me down a few streets, and hoped for the best. The farther into town I walked, the more my frustration grew. I started getting into the bad part of town, and became mad at myself for getting lost.

I pulled out my phone to call Eleanor back and see if she had either called or showed up at home, but I was distracted by a strange noise. It was at a pretty decent distance away, but it sounded like a scream.

I walked forward a few feet to see if I could hear it again. The closer I got, I could make out words being said.

"Help me. Someone, please!"

It stopped abruptly, but that was all I needed to hear. Those were the only words I needed to hear, in order to I.D her voice.

I ran straight to where I heard her voice. Something was terribly wrong and I knew it. I could feel it.
