Chapter 38: Prep Time

Rinni's POV

Last night sealed our faith, and right now, Clementine, AJ, and I were being escorted away from the school. I kept silent, as we walked. AJ and Clem talked while Violet and Louis walked behind us.

"Hey Rinni, are you gonna come with us?" AJ asked

"Well, if you guys want me to, then I don't mind. I mean three heads are better than two, right? Sure things will be a bit harder with having three people needing food but it is way easier to get stuff done. Plus I don't think you two will be able to reach the top shelf of anything." ending my statement with a joking tone

Because of what I said I ended up getting playfully punched by Clementine, to which I just chuckled. We continued to walk, and soon enough Violet and Louis left us to our own devices as we continued to walk. Then we heard a gunshot and the three of us hid behind the trees. Clem charged at Abel when the opportunity presented itself. I grabbed his shotgun and pointed it at him. I duck down when I feel someone behind me.

I pointed the gun at them. What I did must have distracted Clementine and this gave Abel a chance to trip her, and the one with the gun quickly stepped on her nape before pointing the gun at her head. AJ showed up and Abel was able to get the gun from him and grab the boy. He put AJ's arm behind the boy's back and was ready to break it with a little more strain.

"Put the gun down or your friend might get her head blown and this kid will have a broken arm."

I growled in anger before putting down the gun. I am aware that I shouldn't do that but are you willing to risk losing people's lives if you were in this situation? Abel kept his hold on AJ's arm before heading in my direction. He motioned for me to get on my knees and I did so while glaring at him. He kicked me from behind and stepped on the back of my neck. After some exchange of words and Clem getting hit to the face, she was forced to roll on her back and finally recognized one another.

Lily offered Clem a hand which she denied, Able soon enough to let go of me after Lily said so. He motioned for me to stand next to Clementine as he still held AJ, hostage. I stood beside her as the two talked, I noticed Violet and Louis in the distance and it seemed like she did too.

"Run!" Clem and I shouted at the same time

While Abel tried to catch Louis and Violet I picked AJ up and Clementine kicked Lily. I ran while carrying AJ, but I tripped and a gunshot went off. Clementine helped AJ up while I got up by myself. Lily and Abel were able to catch up a bit as we continued to run and avoid their gunshots. We soon came across walkers and Clem tripped on a rock, I quickly helped her up and we continued to run while dodging walkers.

The two adults became busy with the walkers. I ran ahead of Clem as she looked back. I slid down and made the walker fall. I rolled away from it as Clementine helped me up. I groaned in pain, as I clutched my right side. Looking down, I immediately saw blood. We looked around and found AJ against the tree, injured as well. Clem made me sit down next to AJ before he handed her a knife. She killed the nearby walkers as I kept the pressure on my wound as well as AJ's. Soon enough James came to help us by distracting the rest of the walkers. Clementine carried AJ as James helped me walk, telling her to follow. Once we were safe I told them to prioritize AJ, and they did. The two worked on getting the bullets out and patched the young boy up. Next was me, they did the same thing to me.

The difference is when they tried to tape up the wound, it began to close. They freaked out about this, and I began to explain to them just who and what I am. AJ and Clementine talked as I followed James, helping him set up a fire. Once that was done, she carried AJ to the fire. Some words were exchanged and James offered us an apple to which I told Clem that she and AJ needed it more. We soon all called it a night after talking some more, well AJ slept while the three of us didn't. The next day we thanked James once more and we left. Clem and I took turns carrying AJ and taking points for protection.

It was clear near the end of our way back Clem was exhausted, and I was too but I knew how to handle it better. I decided to gently take AJ and carry him the rest of the way. Louis soon came to our aid when Clem fell to her knees due to exhaustion. Soon enough Louis carried the young boy and rushed to Ruby who in turn also rushed to help AJ. Clementine and I went with Violet and let me tell you, a long-ass conversation ensued. First of all about what happened, next about protection and reinforcement, and finally, about me. After our long conversation, the days seemed to pass while reinforcing when the greenhouse was cleared. Besides reinforcing everyone's been practicing on their aim using the bow, of course, I joined in but I wasn't that good with it. I mean I have a fucking prescription glasses for fuck's sake, granted it's only for correction, but I still need them.

Oh, and we still haven't found my main weapon yet, thank you very much. So I just ended up with the chair leg with nails, better than nothing I guess. The days went on and people became more tense, wanting the fight to be over and done so they could go back to how it used to be before the raiders. To get rid of the tense situation Louis decided to host a truth or dare game, with cards may I mind you. I joined in for fun. I gave out a couple of laughs or chuckles here or there as we played. In one round I got a 2 of diamonds and Tenn got an ace of spades.

"Truth. Are you actually 22 years old? Like you don't look like it."

"Yeah, I just can't believe you are 22." Violet said

"Yes, I am 22 years old. I don't know why I don't look like I'm 22, but my theory is it's just some weird thing that happens in each dimension I go to in order to "blend in" or so to speak."

After that, we continued to play the game until we all called it a night. Though I did watch Louis and Violet invite Clem to do their own thing. Louis invited Clementine to do some piano practice, while Violet invited her to check the walls. She looked at me as if asking for help, I just shrugged and motioned for her to just go. She looked at Louis and Violet one more time before running to catch up with Violet. I smiled got up from the couch and walked towards the watchtower. I climbed up and made an excuse of wanting to help out. Clem and AJ soon came up.

"It's gonna happen. Tonight. I never knew when it would exactly happen but I remembered, from my world it happened the night you guys played truth or dare... and that was tonight... I wanted to tell you guys much earlier but I didn't want to ruin the mood. They're gonna try to sneak upon us. The best thing we can do is set off the trap I set. I suggest you guys take a watch to see where they are. I'll have Violet and the rest get to their positions."

I didn't bother to hear their response as I jumped down from the tower and jogged to the dorms to warn everyone. Clem and AJ soon enough came as well and confirmed what I said. We all got into our positions and soon enough chaos began. Sounds of gunshots rang out, and an angry charge caused someone to lose their life. Arrows were aimed and fired at the raiders and they retaliated with gunshots. The retreat to the admin building was somewhat successful, for some people.

I stayed on the ground as they ran, basically trying to be the distraction as the others fled. I managed to take down a raider when they chased after me. I heard the sound of glass breaking which was soon followed by the sound of breaking wood and screams. I looked towards the source to see Lily pointing a gun at Clem's head. I didn't think twice and charged at her, using all my strength to keep the bitch pinned down.

I was then grabbed by the back of my shirt and I struggled to get the grip to loosen. Louis tried to help me but he got hit by the stock of Lily's gun and grabbed by the same person, dragging us off. I quickly bit the leg of the one holding Louis and me and that caused her to let go of us before kicking me on the head, knocking me out.
