''Okay, so the most important thing is not to catch Lauren off guard. Once she's on adrenaline she won't come down. She will just defend herself no matter what you say. She has to notice you at the party before you talk to her,'' Vanessa explained. I nodded in agreement.

Lauren has always been like that. I remember when we were going to throw her a surprise party at her house for her 15th birthday. She was so startled that at first she didn't even want to admit that she was happy about the action we were taking. In the end she managed to do it, but it took a while.

''Do you think she will listen to me? What if she runs away again. She doesn't seem to be very happy about my presence," I asked insecurely. I almost had the feeling that we would have to constrict her somehow if this was going to work.

''Maybe we have to put some pressure on her to accept the conversation. But that might be difficult. Lauren doesn't just settle for that. She could probably use violence if she feels pressured,'' Vanessa warned.

''Vanessa listen. I'm not going to force her to talk to me. I'm not going to pressure her. If she accepts it, fine. If not, tough luck. Some things are the way they are and then I have to deal with it,'' I announced.

Coercion was not a solution for me. Who does not voluntarily do something has no interest in it. If she doesn't want to talk to me, then she has no more interest in this friendship.

''Sure. I understand that. If that's what you want, then that's what we'll do,'' she said, nodding at me.

''Thank you,'' I thanked her for her understanding.

''I didn't get a chance to ask you this morning how you were after the accident. You don't have to answer if you don't want to talk about it.'' she asked.

''It's fine. I can talk about it by now. It was difficult for me at first because I was a bit traumatized afterwards. Whenever I had to think about the accident I was directly pulled into flashbacks. That was not very pleasant,'' I told her. She nodded at me to give me a sign to continue.

''I was in a coma for a week after the accident and then I was monitored in the hospital for two weeks to make sure everything was fine before I was allowed to leave. I felt incredibly weak during those two weeks. Just moving a little bit to change my posture was hard for me. I could not contact anyone who was not with me in the hospital. As mentioned earlier, I was only allowed to use my phone in the last 2 days in the hospital and then only for 10 minutes,'' I continued.
