It was still 2 days until Lauren's birthday and I still did not know what to gift her.

I first searched on the Internet but I really found nothing. And now it was too late anyway to order something that should arrive in time.

That's why I decided to go downtown that Wednesday after university to look for something.

I thought about buying her some jewelry. Maybe a bracelet, earrings or a nice necklace.

I looked for stores where I could find what I was looking for until I came across a jewelry store that looked promising. I just hoped to find something for a reasonable price. Not too cheap but not too expensive either.

Although I had not yet set a limit upwards.

The woman behind the cash register greeted me. She was about mid 40s , with a short blonde bob hairstyle. ''Can I help you in any way?'' she asked in a friendly manner.

''Not right now. But thank you. I'll come to you if I need anything,'' I answered back just as friendly and she nodded at me with a smile.

I looked around the little store a bit. It was full of display cases containing fine jewelry.

I especially liked the necklaces here.

As I looked around a bit more, my gaze suddenly stopped on a piece. It was really beautiful and even the 70 dollars on the price tag could not discourage me. It was worth the money.

I approached the saleswoman who was typing something on the computer.

''Excuse me, could you maybe get something from the display case for me?", I asked her kindly. ''Of course.'' She looked to me and grabbed the key from the table.

When I showed her the piece, she smiled. ''You have good taste. Who is it for?" she asked as she carefully took the piece from the display case.

''For my girl best friend,'' I replied, smiling slightly. I was glad to be able to call Lauren that again now.

''She must really mean a lot to you,'' the woman said, and she was absolutely right.

I knew that something was different when we saw each other. It just makes me so happy just to be near her.

I swore to myself that I would take care of her and never ever hurt her again. I didn't want to lose her again. I couldn't.

In the 2 years without her, I constantly felt like I was missing something. And now that feeling was gone and replaced by another.
