I walk towards the cafeteria with my head held high. Despite looking confident and strong, inside I was weak and scared, so so scared.
Somehow, I've managed to avoid Adam the whole day but I knew I had to face him sooner or later- and that would be during lunch.
Just thinking about him makes me feel sick- which Andy calls love sick.
Andy was wrong. I knew it.
I wasn't in love with Adam, pfft. No. The only reason my body acts weirdly around him is because... well... I'm allergic to him. Yeah, that's it.
I enter the cafeteria and look over at my table before sighing in relief. Adam's not there, thank the Lord.
"Yo."
I scream in surprise as I feel someone tap my shoulder.
It's Adam.
His eyes widen at my sudden outburst as he raises his hands up innocently.
"Oh." I say breathing heavily. "Hi Adam."
"Did I scare you?" He asks.
I nod as I try to walk away from him by walking towards the line for food. He follows me and I curse under my breath.
"So what are you going to get?" He asks trying to bring up some conversation.
I shrug.
He gives me a side-glance before looking at what's served for today. "Okay... Well I'm thinking about getting some spaghetti."
I nod.
From the side of my eye I see him staring at me as he hands his plate towards the lunch lady. "Is there anything wrong Katie?" He asks.
I look at him before giving him a strain smile. "No."
He nods. "Okay. Good."
Our trays are now full as we walk out of the line and towards our table.
I notice that the table is now empty leaving me alone with Adam... if ever he sits with me.
"Where is everyone?" Adam asks.
I shrug breathing shakily out of nervousness.
I hear someone holler at us making me breath a sigh of relief.
"YO ADAM! SIT WITH US!"
It's the football guys again beckoning Adam to come over to them.
Adam looks at me with an awkward smile. "I should probably say no..."
I frown and I look over at the table where most of the guys are calling Adam over except for Bryce who is smiling at me wickedly. "What! No! You should eat with them."
Adam shakes his head. "I have practice later on so I'll get to hang out with them then. I want to stay with you now." Adam says before continuing to walk before I stop him by stepping in front of him.
"Adam!" I scold. "Go eat lunch with them. They're your team mates and to be able to fit in with them you have to hang out with them."
"But-"
"Go." I say sternly.
Finally, he sighs in defeat before giving me a questioning look.
I nod insisting him to go.
"Fine." He says with a sigh before turning away from me to walk to his teammates. "Only for today though!" He calls over his shoulder before sitting with the boys who all give him pats on his back.
