Bryce Anderson was the number one guy on every girls list in Lake Wood High. He was the quarterback of the football team, and not to mention very good looking, with his brown locks and startling blue eyes, how could one not think he was eye-catching.
However, even after I dated him for a pretty long time, I still couldn't figure out why girls loved him so much that they were willing to use their free period to watch him run around the field. He's got the looks, and the popularity, however he's got no personality. He's self-assured, egotistical, and not to mention superior. The only reason I'm dating him is because what we have, whatever it is, I know it's only for fun. However I'm going to give him some recognition and say he's a sweet guy, that's for sure.
Tonight he brought me to one of the priciest restaurants where he ordered me my favorite; strawberries and chocolate.
I stare him at him as his lips move but no words come out. I start to space out until he catches my attention.
"Katie." He says clearing his throat.
"Mhm?" I say as I bite into my strawberry.
"As I was saying... I'm thinking of going to the gym more often. My goal by the end of the year is a six-pack. If I'm able to get a six-pack, I'm sure all girls will fall for me in college. Maybe even the girl professors too, that way my grades can be raised..."
And once again I start to space out for the billionth time this evening.
After a few minutes of daydreaming I finally decide to actually listen to him.
"Most girls only date me for my popularity but I know you're not like most girls. You're special." He says giving me that famous smirk every girl falls for- every girl except for me. I give him a smile which is strain compared to his. "What's going on with us right now, I like it and I hope it continues. What I'm really trying to say is..."
My eyes widen as I realize where he's going with this. Please don't say it, please don't say it, I say repeatedly in my mind.
"I-"
"Please don't say you love me." I say quickly before the words come out of his mouth.
He stares at me with wide eyes before closing his mouth and looking away shyly.
"Oh god." I murmured. "Please don't tell me that you weren't going to say you love me and that I just embarrassed myself big time."
He smiled shyly. "No I was going to say I love you but..."
I smiled. "Look, Bryce you're a cool guy but I'm not really looking for anything... um, official."
He stared at me with a confused face before finally speaking. "But we've been dating for a month now."
I shrugged as I got a strawberry and bit into it. "Well... I thought it was only for fun. I mean for the last month that we've spent together you should've figured out by then that I'm not really into you." I said with my mouth full.
"Uh... Are you breaking up with me on our anniversary?" He asked disbelief written all over his face.
"It's our anniversary?"
He chuckled disbelievingly. "Look Katie, we can work this out. I know you don't love me yet but I'm willing to wait for your brain to function properly and-"
"Okay okay okay." I said stopping him quickly as I wiped the chocolate off the side of my lip. "Correction. First, I don't love you and I don't think I'll ever love you. I know that stings buddy, but believe it or not, not all girls got the hypes for you. Second, what you're saying right now, you sound way too desperate. Go get other chicks, the ones that actually want to be with you."
