"Stay here." Jaxson put his hand on mine in the back seat of the car. He took his phone from the inside of his suit pocket and dialled mine, taking it from my hand and answering it, putting it on loud speaker before handing it to Jesse in the passenger seat. "Don't come in until I tell you and when you do, come in calm. Don't let him win this." I nodded and he turned to Jesse. "I want everything that is said in there on record." He turned back to me and kissed my cheek before quickly climbing out the back of the car and closing the door quietly.
I watched him slowly walk up to the house, opening the door and hugging his mom who stood in the foyer.
"Hi Mom."
"How's Lennox?"
"Not great. Someone just shot her brother dead beside her on her wedding day. Where's Dad?"
"In his office. Does she want to come in? I have some clothes she can change into?"
"No Mom, I think she just needs to be alone right now. Sonny and Jesse are with her. She's okay out there. I won't be long." I heard him kiss her cheek whilst I continued staring at the phone sat on the dashboard.
"Jaxson. We weren't expecting you so soon. How's Lennox? Did you find the shooter?"
"We did. It was Carlos. Stupid prick wouldn't say anything though. Lennox is a mess. She can barely stand up I have no idea how she is going to manage the business like this. She needs to group everyone together to find who did it but she can't even form a sentence. I've never seen her like this." I heard the squeak of one of the leather chairs and knew he'd have his head in his hands. "What do I do? Surely I have to sort this for her? Right?"
"I think that's best son. You've been doing this a lot longer than she has. You've got more experience than she has. You'll be managing my business one day like she is. Now is the perfect time to try it out. Who knows she might never come back to it. Then you'd take over."
"The only thing Carlos said was that she was next. That whoever it was wanted me to have her business by any means necessary. I can't loose her Dad."
"I bet if you get the business she'll be fine Jaxson. If that's their reasoning."
"How do you know she'd be fine Dad?" There was a short silence. "Carlos was right wasn't he? It was you?" Jaxson was still calm. "Tell me the plan Dad. I could have been in on it. It would have been so much simpler."
"Jaxson. You couldn't have been in on it. The whole thing depended on you two being naturally in love."
"How deep did this run because the only reason we fell back together was because her dad forced her to dance with me at the ball."
"Was it really her dad or was that a business decision I prompt him on."
"Jesus Dad." Jaxson sighed heavily and I just carried on staring at the phone. I could see Jesse looking between the phone, me and Sonny neither of them knowing what to do about what was being reeled off.
"Well I had to get you together enough that it made sense for you all to go to Italy together."
"Wait that was you? The bank? The Morello's?"
"Just a side line. Someone had to take the blame for it and we've had some issues in the past."
"The home invasion was you? I got shot because of you?" The anger was starting to return now. I knew where Jaxson was taking this. I knew what he was thinking. I dung my fingers deep into my fist and watched as blood droplets fell onto my dress in the dark cark.
"No one was supposed to get hurt. I mean other than the men I sent. I knew they wouldn't make it out of there alive not with you two."
"Wait- Did you- Dad did you have her Dad killed?"
