Chapter 10 - I Give Gummy Bears To Flynn

Since I couldn’t make it to afterschool detention today I had to give up my lunch period. If I didn’t think that was bad enough, when I was hurrying by the cafeteria to get to my detention room on the other side of the school I saw that chicken sandwiches and sweet potatoes where on the menu.

I wanted to cry seeing that. It’s my favorite lunch, and they only served it when they felt like it because I guess this simple dish was too hard for them to construct. I kept walking on into the detention room mentally punching myself for getting it today, because if I hadn’t I could be in the cafeteria enjoying my delicious sweet potatoes.

I looked to the front of the classroom to see that the teacher wasn’t here to supervise as usual. So I went up to the front to sign myself in and took a seat at the end of the classroom towards the cabinets lining the walls.

Before I sat down I took off my bag balancing quickly on the top of the desk to reach the top shelf of the cabinet where I kept a hidden stash of Gummy bears, Gummy worms, gummy-Os, and sour patch kids. Grabbing them all I hopped down and sat down tearing into my bag of gummy bears first.

I was just deciding weather or not it would be more humane to eat the head first or just the whole body all at once when someone interrupted my mental bickering.

I could see his mouth moving, obviously trying to talk to me but I was frozen just staring at him. He had dark brown hair forest green eyes. His hair was kind of long so it fell into his eyes a bit, but you can see where I was going with this the boy was cute !

Yea... The boy was cute but he just stopped talking and was now looking at me strangely, my mind was telling me he was waiting for a response.

Oh that’s right! He was talking to you before you went all space cadet on him and started ogling at his face.

‘I’m sorry, I wasn’t really paying attention, what did you say?" I said to him, not making eye contact this time because I was so embarrassed to be caught staring like an idiot for this long

“It’s quite all right!” he said cheerily, smiling at me. Oh man. Does he want me to have a heart attack? He should be in one of those tooth paste commercials I thought to myself before he continued ,"I was just saying I'm new here and I forgot to pack a lunch so I was wondering if you could spare me a couple of bears, they’re my favorite too ! "

He wants me to go find him bears? Quick Casey where do you find bears!

And then it dawned on me he wants some of my gummy bears!

Quickly reaching into the bag I gave him a large handful of them. That’s when I heard someone scoffing behind me, who was David of course. Of course HE has to be here.

"Feel special Flynn, the last time she gave away a gummy bear was in Kindergarten, and only because our lesson of the day was 'Sharing is Caring ' and the teacher forced her to hand me one. " he said smirking

“And even then, it was only the body"

Wait, they know each other?

"David! I didn’t know you knew this girl? “The boy, Flynn said to David

"I thought you said you were new ...Flynn? How do you know David so quickly “I said, putting extra venom into David’s name?

“Oh well see, Flynn here is my cousin, He just came back from Argentina last week" David said Smiling Broadly at me , knowing it would make my blood boil . Numb nut.

"I hope we get to talk again uh..." Flynn said stammering at the end

Oh yeah he doesn’t know my name!

"Casey, Casey Ventura” I said with a small smile

“Wow, she gave you her first and last name, I think she’s crushing on you bro “David said.

That made absolutely no sense, but it still didn’t help my embarrassment go down in the slightest.

“Leave the pretty girl alone” Flynn said to his cousin

“Do you even see a girl here, I mean look at her! She’s dressed head to toe like a boy" I didn’t hear the rest of what he had to say because I left the room. I knew if I stood there for a moment longer I would have done something that would have put me straight into the principal’s office once again.

I was in my car , waiting for the boys to come out because as usual , they were amongst the last ones out of the building, the whole parking lot was basically empty apart from the6 other cars across the lot.

So confident that I wouldn’t get caught I started belting out the lyrics to Imagine Dragons song - Its Time. Out of nowhere I heard two quick taps on my window, and boy was I embarrassed by what I saw.

Flynn was looking down at me laughing, motioning for me to roll my window down. After I did he said something shocking.

“Are you free Friday night “He said smiling down at me?

What? Please Excuse me while my brain gets thrown into chaos. But after a full two minutes of me just staring dumbly at him, I realized I had to answer so I said the most intelligent thing that came into my head.

“No habla ingles” I said, the moment it left my mouth I was cursing myself

He took it as a joke and started laughing, before taking my arm and writing my number down on it.

“Call me if you ever decide to learn English”

Wow.

Oh no. The boys were coming out of the school and just witnessed the whole thing.
