DAENERYS HAD AGREED TO HELP ON ONE CONDITION. The condition that Ned Stark no longer called himself the King of the North, and that he give up the title and bent the knee to Daenerys instead. If he did this, then Daenerys would allow Rhaenerys, Robb, and all of the Northerners to use her ships and stay on Dragonstone where it was safe for the time being.
It was a huge request, but it was not one that Ned Stark was in the position to decline. Not when Daenerys Targaryen was his only hope for his people and for his family. For the sake of them, Ned-who never wanted to be king in the first place-put aside his title and agreed.
And because of that, his people including his wife and all his children, were now on Dragonstone.
The closed off island was a heaven of relief for many people, but the source of complaint for others. And Ned's decision seemed to split the Northerners down the middle with those thinking that he was in the right for bending the knee to those who thought he was in the wrong.
Some of the houses such as House Bolton thought that he was wrong to give up his title and that Daenerys had no right to ask him of that. But houses like House Mormont said that Ned did what was right and that being alive was better than being a king.
Rhaenerys had to agree with the latter argument.
Keeping her and her family safe was a lot better than having to keep the title princess. And besides, she had been wanting to shed it anyways.
She was Robb's wife now, and Lady Stark. It was about time people called her as such.
Catelyn wasn't exactly thrilled when she heard Rhaenerys calling herself this, but she managed to put her displeasure for Rhaenerys aside as she did not want it to affect her relationship with her grandchild. Besides, Catelyn could not deny that she was the least bit grateful towards Rhaenerys for providing her and her children a safe place.
At the same time, Robb seemed happy enough. More than happy actually, now that he knew his wife and babe were safe. The weight of making sure that they were alright seemed to be lifted from his shoulders, and the young wolf seemed brighter. Glimpses of the boy he used to be showed more often now rather than the man the war had made him to be.
Because of this, Catelyn could not find it in herself to resent his wife and cause him displeasure. Robb was finally at peace; and she wasn't going to take it from him.
Burying the hatchet also made living in close quarters a lot easier and a lot more tolerable, with Rhaenerys not having Catelyn at her throat constantly.
