After we left Chicago, Nicolas and I spent a couple of days catching up on work before we decided to break the news to Mila. We came home one late afternoon and she was sitting beside the kitchen counter playing with Strawberry and Chocolate when we told her.

"Don't do that Chocolate...you have to share with Strawberry too!" She muttered to herself as she moved her dolls back and forth against the quartz counter top.

"Hey, princess!" I said surprising her out of the blue.

Her eyes lit up and she smiled, "Hi, Auntie Vee!" She exclaimed happily.

I smiled and Mila turned her head to look at Nicolas. "Hi, Nicki!" She said with just as much enthusiasm.

"Ciao, piccolo." He greeted her; I wasn't sure if she understood him, but she seemed to have because she giggled at his response.

I walked over to where she was sitting and sat beside her, "Auntie Vee and Nicki have a surprise for you, princess." I said to her.

She grinned widely and began bouncing up and down in her chair, "A surprise?! Can I see? Can I see!!" She said eagerly.

My lips formed a thin line as I shook my head back and forth. "I don't think I can bring the surprise to you, but I can bring you to the surprise." I teased her.

She cocked her head to the side in confusion, letting her curls tumble to her shoulders as she did so. "It's not here?" She asked.

I smiled, "Nope...We're going to Disneyland!!!" I cheered.

I don't think her eyes could get any wider than they were at this moment, she literally looked frozen in time...shocked.

"Disneyland." She whispered.

I think maybe I should have waited until the day of; now she wasn't going to bed because she would be too excited.

She hopped out of her chair and began happily jumping up and down. "We're going to Disneyland! Disneyland!" She cheered.

Nevertheless I was happy to see that she was excited to go on the trip; we would be leaving tomorrow morning so it was best to get her packing and ready for the last-minute trip.

"Do you like your surprise, princess?" I asked her.

She nodded her head so quickly, I was afraid that it would fall straight off her neck. "Yes, thank you Auntie Vee!" She jumped on me and held me tightly in a hug which I always loved and appreciated from her. When she broke the embrace she ran over to Nic and did the same; he too seemed to have grown fond of Mila's hugs and affection.

"How about you go and start to pack up your things so we can leave first thing in the morning?" I suggested to her.

"Okay!" Mila hopped up the stairs with Leo barking crazily behind her as they both headed in the direction of her room.

I turned and looked over at Nicolas with a smile, "Did you see? She looked so happy!" I cheered; I think I finally hit the jackpot, this may not push the fact that her mother and father are no longer here, but at least I can provide her with comfort and reassurance that there are good things in life awaiting for her to unlock them.

"I saw, angelo...I'm afraid she will barely sleep tonight because of her excitement." He stated the already clear known fact.

I nodded in agreement, still a light smirk played on my face. "I couldn't help it, I just wanted to see the reaction on her face." I clapped my hands together and for once in these past couple of weeks, I felt in control again.
