She's hearing a lullaby her mother used to sing to her when she was young. It's fading fading and fading until she couldn't hear it anymore. As she opens her eyes, she's lying on the bed in her room. She thought she was alone but Akane was dozing off in the chair.
"Akanee. Is she awake yet? I brought dinner." Haibara shouts from afar.
"Sssh." Sayuri signals to the sleeping Akane.
"Oops! Sorry." Haibara says.
"Are you feeling alright?" He asked in his tiny soft voice
"I'm fine really. But what exactly happened? I couldn't remember." Sayuri confesses
"What!? Don't you not remember the outburst of your power. You almost choked one of the greatest sorcerers of all time and you couldn't remember!" Haibara told her
"Wait a minute. That really happened? Did I really choke him?" Sayuri asked
"Yes. And if Izumi sensei hadn't come to your aid, you would be dead in the hands of Gojo-san. He was ready to use limitless on you. He could do anything for his best friend you know." Nanami enters her room.
"So aren't you guys afraid of me or anything?" Sayuri asked suddenly, unsure.
"Nah. We all have a little outburst here and there. No need to be afraid of our freind for that. Am I right boys?" Akane's finally awake.
"Yes!" Haibara says enthusiastically.
"I guess so." Nanami says in the most nanami way possible.
And for the first time after coming here, Sayuri felt accepted.
"Thank you guys." She says with a real smile on her face.
After dinner, her classmates headed to their individual rooms. But Sayuri couldn't sleep anymore so she stepped onto the rooftop. This was her usual routine. When she couldn't sleep, she'd go to the rooftop to watch the stars. It helped her feel accompanied.
"Are you a star gazer now?" A familiar voice says. He's standing in the same outfit as in the afternoon. But what is different is his hair. It is down and wet. He must have had a shower. And he's smoking a cigarette. Well this is awkward.
"I love when the stars make me feel like I'm not alone," Sayuri says
After a pause she adds, "Well, I'm sorry for the afternoon. But you know it's your fault. You shouldn't have done that to the locket."
"I don't need your apology. I wanted to check your abilities. You said you didn't have any powers. Yet you proved yourself wrong. And for the choking part, I kinda enjoyed it." Suguru told her abruptly.
He is now standing by her side. He smells delicious, like warm apple pie and coffee.
Sayuri blushes a bit at the last comment. But then she remembers the locket.
"You know when I was sleeping I heard my mother's singing. Then suddenly it faded away. I had no one. Not my father, not my friends, no one. The whole world hated me for who I am. It was me and my mother against the world. But she left me alone in this world with nothing but that locket. That's why that locket was so special. It was part of my mother."
She doesn't know why she is saying this things to Suguru, he doesn't care. He's not even speaking. She looks at him just to see his full attention is on her.
He is listening to every word she's stating. And in that moment, she completely melts. From the day her mother died, till this day to finding a new home - every emotion she felt comes bursting out of her in the form of tears. She's crying like hell.
"I'm sorry. You're not supposed to see this-" Sayuri mumbles when suddenly she feels strong arms wrapping around her and she realizes Suguru is hugging her.
It is not a casual hug. It is that kind of hug that meant he'd never let her go.
He says in a deep voice, "I apologize for everything you had to go through."
Sayuri finally wept in his arms and felt free. She breaks the hug to looks into his eyes. His eyes are so beautiful. It has a natural eyeliner thing. Sayuri loved that about him. The eyes hold no pity but respect for everything she've gone through. She longed for this look for ages. Her eyes are fixed on his lips. It is full and a lighter shade of pink. Suddenly, she wants to bite his lips and make them swollen.
"I have something for you." Suguru says suddenly.
Sayuri looks up from his lips and meets his strong gaze.
"What is it?"
"Not like this. Turn back and close your eyes. It's a surprise." He says teasingly
She did so and after what felt like several minutes she felt his hands around her neck tying something. She opens her eyes and notices the locket on a brand new necklace. It's as good as new. She's so stunned that she can't speak. Suddenly she feels a hot kiss on her neck, and Suguru whispers
"Every broken thing can be fixed, love."
And with that he's gone.
