Sayuri couldn't comprehend what she was hearing. She never knew her father. Could this man be lying? She must stay calm in this situation.
"Are you fucking kidding me? How did you even get past the barrier?" Suguru asked him. He's still holding her hand.
The man still wore the same clothes as that day. He had stitches on his forehead, Sayuri could see. She hadn't noticed that before.
"Don't you remember me, Sayuri?" The man asked her, ignoring Suguru.
"You are the man from the beachside stall, aren't you? How would I believe you're my father?"
"He's not your father. He died in the Azai Clan massacre." Suguru tries to convince her.
"I believe you're wrong." He told him
"How so?"
The man looks at her with serious eyes and confesses, "I am responsible for the massacre."
"You killed the whole clan?" Sayuri couldn't believe his words. Suguru is listening to his every word with full focus.
"I did. You don't know anything about the Azai clan. You were still a child then. My clan was a greedy clan who understood nothing but their own ambition. They wanted to suppress the other clans to rule over jujutsu society. I spied on them by the order of the higher ups. Gave them information. The mission was to kill them. It was my duty. One regret I have is not being able to spend more time with you in your childhood," he says.
It is a lot to take in for her. So many questions, so much confusion.
"Wait a minute, you said more time. But I don't remember even knowing you."
She asks, "Why is that?"
Suguru wrapped his hand around her more tightly.
"Because of my power. I erased all your memories with me in case my clan found out about you. They were firmly against illegitimate children. They would have killed you if they knew."
"So I am an illegitimate child?" She is speaking in a trance.
"Not for me. My clan arranged my marriage at a very young age. I couldn't love her though I tried my hardest. But then I met your mother. Sometimes you fall in love with the most unexpected person. I still love her, I do. It is my fault I couldn't protect her, couldn't protect you." He confesses.
Sayuri immediately thought of Suguru after hearing this. She fell in love with him unexpectedly too, and he didn't even know. What is written in their fate? A fairytale happy ending or a tragic end like her parents?
"Alright, let's say you're her father. What brings you here with all these assassins from the Anti-Jujutsu gang? Are you involved with them?"
Suguru is asking the most important questions because he knows Sayuri won't be able to control her emotions right now.
"I am involved with them. I found out about my daughter through the bounty the Anti-Jujutsu gang put out. I had to join them to find her. But I'm not here to harm my daughter. I never could. I came here to take her with me. Take her away from the chaos of the Jujutsu world. I should never have left. I failed to protect my family." He said with tears in his eyes.
Sayuri is fighting within herself. Is this man his long-lost father? Should she forgive him? Or is he lying just to benefit himself? She couldn't tell.
But if the latter is true, then how could he know so much about the clan? Only one way to find out.
"I'm willing to come with you, father", she says tightening her hand around Suguru's.
