A few hours ago:

The air is tensed around here. He could feel all the curses lurking in the shadows.

He shouldn't have yelled at her. Shouldn't have lost his cool. He felt disgusted by himself.

It was all the same outside the jujutsu tech barrier. Humans hate humans, and from there curses were born. He is most drawn to negative energies. Except for him, no one in this world knows what it is like to swallow curse after curse.

He does everything in his power because he wants to protect people, protect non-sorcerers, protect his friends, his family, protect her. At all costs, he couldn't lose her. Not like that. Not again.

He doesn't even remember her face or her name. But she was a beautiful soul. Her presence made him calm, at peace.

After losing his childhood friend, he vowed never to let the same thing happen again. He will protect Sayuri, no matter what.

On his way back to the hotel, he was thinking about everything. The sun is setting beautifully on the sea. It is already evening. He returned to his room to freshen up when he found his phone on the table. There were 2 missed calls.

"Hello, Izumi-sensei? Yes, we landed safely. Everything's fine."

"Yaga sensei and I agreed to send some backups to reduce your load. After all, she's a treasure and it is our duty to ensure her safety. It's been a year since her mother died." She said from the other side.

"Wait. One year already?" Suguru asked.

"Yeah. Tomorrow is 31st December isn't it?" She asked him.

"I didn't remember. Thank you sensei, I'll be informing Satoru." He told her before disconnecting the call.

He heard a whooshing sound at his door. It was a piece of paper. He bent down to pick it up

"I'm sorry for everything. I didn't realize your hard work. And I didn't know about your friend."

It's her messy handwriting. So that joker told her about that. That fucking idiot.

Suguru reached out to touch the words, realizing she had forgotten that tomorrow is the 31st.

He found a pencil and wrote on the other side.

"Go to sleep now, I'll see you at midnight."

He chuckled to himself. It would be a pleasant surprise.

Meanwhile in Sayuri's room:

What'll happen at midnight? Why the hell did he chose the middle of the night? And go to sleep? Was he ordering her? The audacity of that man, she thinks to herself.

The tension is killing her, how could she fall asleep. She found the most boring looking book on the book shelf, thought it'll make her sleep, but it got interesting in the middle and she finished reading it in one sitting.
