Author: just a note to say sorry if updates arent as good as some of you know my gran died in my arms yesterday, she was my best friend and I am really struggling with this we were extremely close. writing has been managing to help distract me a little but my heart is broken.

The Baroness feels the heat from the flames causing beads of sweat to roll down her back. 'Ah!' she flinches seeing the fire on her cloak. Her cloak however repels the flames. She thinks back to your conversation:

The fashion queen looks curious. 'I've never worked with a material like this before, what did you say it was?' You bite your lip. 'It's not really for fashion...'

The Baroness raises an eyebrow. 'What is it then?' You cringe. 'So it's pretty much only used by firefighters in their uniform to protect them from the flames. But I promise I will style it to make you look like a damn goddess.' The Baroness looks skeptical.

She looks at the material it's starting to turn white but is most definitely protecting her from the flames. Genghis is barking and startles her when she suddenly scampers passed howling. Looking up, the fire parts for a moment when she sees the figure slumped to the ground. '(Y/N)!' she darts through the fire as best she can when she gets to you, you are unconscious and there is no way she can carry you. '(Y/N)!' she shakes you trying to wake you and she coughs in the smoke. 'Heaven's sake!' she slaps you hard, then again. You groan and smell smoke slowly opening your eyes you slowly see an angel looking down at you. So this is how it ends?

The Baroness digs her nails into your chin. 'Focus! Get up, get a grip and hold onto me.' she helps you to your feet and wraps you in her cloak. Thank god for her love of oversized outer garments. When you first met you were in her fur now you are in her cloak. You choke and struggle to walk she has a firm grip around your waist holding most of your weight. 'I have got you.' she speaks more formally than you ever did but the sentiment is the same. John seeing the figures stumbles over and helps you and the Baroness.

You collapse on the ground you smile up at her your face and body marked with soot. Your eyes close. 'John! John! She's not breathing. 'We need to perform CPR!' he instructs forcefully. 'I don't know what to do!' The Baroness is panicking and starting to cry. 'Baroness! Victoria!' his commanding tone shocks her. 'I'm going to do 30 compressions on her chest then I need you to pinch (y/n)'s nose and give her two rescue breaths. Can you do that for me?!' Shaking the Baroness nods erratically and John begins pressing on your chest, she leans down pinching your nose and giving you two full breaths. Nothing. 'John! She's not waking.' she panics. 'Focus. Again!'

"I was looking for a breath of life,

A little touch of heavenly light
But all the choirs in my head sang no (I believe it)
To get a dream of life again
A little vision of the start and the end
But all the choirs in my head sang no"

They do this another twice before you finally start choking for air which gets more difficult when the Baroness scoops you into her arms. She rocks you against her chest and smooths your hair back from your face. You cling to her desperately. John sighs stressfully running his hand over his scalp. Sirens sound loud and soon the fire brigade and ambulance services arrive. Genghis is curled up beside John whimpering from all the noise. A fireman speaks with the chief of police who accounts for his men. He then comes to you as you are loaded into the ambulance, the Baroness gets in beside you and holds your hand.

'Miss, Just a quick question I'm told you were one of the last people to leave the building. Did you see anyone else in there?' You think for a moment and take off your oxygen mask. 'Not a soul.' you start to cough and the Baroness forces the mask back over your mouth. You relax in the ambulance bed and the Baroness keeps a tight grip on your hand. You fall asleep with exhaustion and let the professionals do what they need to do. The Baroness doesn't let go of you.

The graveyard is quiet and there is a single black car, an open grave, and a priest. John leans on a black cane standing by the grave, the Baroness steps forward dressed in a black dress with an accentuated neckline. 'Why did we have to go to this crazy bitches funeral?' you sigh approaching leaning on a cane your leg is still messed up from when the debris punctured it. You wrap your arms around the Baroness's slender waist peering over at the open grave. 'Because there was no one else after her husband annulled the marriage. The poor girl obviously had a lot of problems. Not her fault that the Baron was a whore monger.' John rationalises.

The Baroness flares her nostrils. 'Yes and the poor girl burnt my house to the ground, it's going to be a fortune on the rebuild.' she purses her lips. 'I believe the fire was a two-person job according to (y/n).' John points out and you elbow his ribs making him wince. 'It was an accident. It's not like you can't afford it anyway. You'll be rolling in it when they sort out that nonsense of Lilah being the rightful heir.' you kiss her cheek. 'Come, let's go home this place is depressing.' The three of you head back to the car and drive home together. You all climb into the elevator and John presses the button. 'You realise we only went to that little bitch's funeral because you are letting us crash at your place?' you look at John. 'I'm aware. And what fun the three of us are having as roommates.' he responds with fake enthusiasm.

'Oh, that reminds me John I finished the Salmon but if you go to McDonald's could you collect one of those pizza things?' John looks homicidal third time this week that she has eaten his salmon. 'Baroness, John is off the clock.' you remind and she rolls her eyes. 'Fine, you can order one, (y/n) says they deliver.' John's eyes narrow. 'Of course Baroness.' The lift pings open and you all head to the apartment. The Baroness's funds are tied up and you can't afford a place that is rat-free enough for her comfort.
