Penny got back at Callison's house under 10 minutes. It involved throwing a cat into a cage, sneaking into the house to get a snack, trying not to get caught by her Mom, and leaving safely.
Callison had opened the door for her, questioning her taste of pets and threatening that she should lock her cat's cage before leaving or else.
Penny shrugged her off, of course. She liked messing with her bestfriend. But she decided to keep the promise.
Afterwards, the two decided to hang out at the rooftop. It was getting hotter by the hour and they figured it would be good to be exposed to the "fresh air".
"Penny?" Callison asked as she sat on the railings.
"Yeah?" Penny raised an eyebrow.
"Are you in good terms with your dad?"
"Ye-yeah. Why'd you ask?"
"Even if he's in another home?"
"Uhuh. We don't really talk much but it's fine." Penny fidgeted with her hands.
"Well, do you get along with you-know-who?" Callison asked.
"Callison, why are asking me this?" Penny sighed as she crossed her arms.
"Don't answer a question with another question." Callison stared at Penny with a concern look in her eyes.
"Can you just answer my question, then?" Penny asked again.
"Well, lately you've been listless. You spend your time with us instead with your family. I'm just really worried about you. Penny, what's wrong?"
"I don't know, Callison. Maybe it was too sudden. My parents getting a divorce. Me ending up with my Mom. My sister ending up with my Dad. I guess I just want to run away from all that." Penny shook all her thoughts away. "Let's grab some smoothies from the Smoothie Stop. I suddenly want to chug down something sweet."
"Well, I just want to tell you that as your bestfriend, you can talk to me about anything." Callison grinned.
"You always know what to say, Cal." Penny smiled. "Race you to the door."
Penny rushed down the stairs leaving Callison sighing. She decided to look at her phone. No new messages.
Callison returned her phone in her pocket and followed Penny.
"Hurry up, Cal! You're too slow." Penny crossed her arms impatiently as she waited by the doorstep.
"Wait, I'm gonna tell Mom." Callison stopped by the stairs and went back. She opened the door to the room across the hall. "Mom, I'm going to get some smoothies with Penny. You want some?"
"Sure, Callison. Get me a grape smoothie and a chocolate one for your brother." Callison's mom stood by the door as she talked.
"Okay, Mom. We'll be back later. Breakfast's downstairs. It's just some cereal and waffles." Callison went to join Penny outside.
After a few minutes of walking, they reached the Smoothie Stop.
The bell atop the door rang as they walked in. The silent shuffle of their shoes were heard from the wooden floor.
The shop was designed to have a home-y feel. There were bookshelves, paintings, curtains and beautiful flowers that decorated the shop.
Ironically, it looked more like a cafe than a smoothie shop. Because of that, the owners decided that it would make their shop a cut above the rest so they continued with the idea.
They sell ice cream too so it had a lot of customers during warm and sunny days. During cold days, however, they sell warm drinks such as hot cocoa.
The owners were really random with what they sell so that's what made the shop popular.
A waitress approached Callison and Penny. She wore a white apron over a pink sun-dress and a short white chef-like hat with "The Smoothie Stop" embroided on it on top of her black shoulder-length hair. There was no official uniform but they were required to wear the hat and apron.
The waitress smiled at Callison. "Hello, Cals. Hey Penny. What's up?"
"Hey Sarah. We're here to order some smoothies to go." Callison greeted as she felt the cold wind from the air conditioner.
"Is it just me or is the shop colder than usual?" Penny asked as Sarah cleaned a table.
"The shop is colder than usual. It was too hot so we turned the temperature down a bit." Sarah took a pen out of her hat and a notepad from her apron's pocket. "Now, how about those smoothies?"
"One grape, two chocolates, and one banana." Penny ordered.
"Okay. You guys wanna hang out later? My shift ends around 4." Sarah asked as she ripped a piece of paper from her notepad.
"Sure! We were going shopping for Callison's date!" Penny announced happily.
"Ooohh. With Sky?" Sarah asked.
Callison nodded. "Who else would I date at the moment?"
"Dunno. Well, you girls wait your drinks. I'm gonna go get them." Sarah hurried to the counter and blended the smoothies.
The sweet smell of fruits and chocolate filled the shop. The customers on the separate booths chatted to themselves as they drank and ate their ordered food and drinks.
"Here you go. One grape smoothie, two chocolate smoothies, one banana smoothie, and a bunch of coupons." Sarah smiled as she gave a paper bag to Penny.
"Thanks." Penny replied
"Don't tell anyone about the coupons. They're given to very few people." Sarah whispered.
"Of course." Callison and Penny gave her a mock salute.
"Awesome. I'll see you to later." Sarah turned around to attend to another customer.
Just as Callison and Penny left the shop, Penny bumped into a guy with silver colored hair.
"Sorry-" Penny started. The boy looked at Callison and ran away from the shop.
"Who were you talking to?" Callison asked as she turned around and closed the door.
"Um... no one." Penny looked at the direction of the boy. Why was he staring at Callison?
Penny shrugged and the two of them headed back to Callison's house.
The boy saw the two girls head out of the shop. He sighed. His silver-blond hair shoned in the sunlight. Callison, he thought. I'll see you again if our fates meet.
