"Lanna!" Callison shouted as she reached for the little brat.
The little girl slipped out of her grasps and ran downstairs. Callison cursed under her breath. "Penny, we have to get my phone. There's something important in there!"
Penny sighed. "Would you care to share what's in there?"
"Later." Callison clenched her fists. "It's a great thing she's a kid. If not-"
"Let us not go into unchartered waters." Penny interrupted her. "Let's just focus at the matter at hand."
Callison breathed in a sigh. Without another question, she rushed out of the room. Penny merely rolled her eyes and followed her.
"Lanna?" Callison called out. "Come on, give me back my phone."
"No waaaaaay!" Lanna shouted from the living room. "I'm still taking selfiees."
Callison ran to where her evil niece was with Penny in tow. There, Lanna sat on the couch, draining the battery and storage of Callison's poor phone.
"Lanna, stop." Callison breathed out an exasperated sigh. "Come on, be reasonable here. If you want, I could take you and your sister to the playground."
Lanna's eyes brightened at the mention of the word playground. She then threw the phone at Callison-who managed to catch it lousily. "Ooooohhh! The playground? Okay! Your phone was getting way too boring anyway."
Callison sighed again. "Now where's your sister?"
"In the kitchen, helping Auntie cook cookies." Lanna said as she stood up and straightened her dress. "Come on, when are we going to the playground?"
"Silly girl, you don't cook cookies, you bake them, alright?" Callison smiled as she patted the little girl's head. Even if she was a brat, you still can't stop her from being adorable from time to time.
"Oh, okay." Lanna nodded. "Playground?"
"Okay, I'll take you to the playground in one condition." Callison crossed her arms.
"Okay, okay. I'll do anything."
"You should behave. No fighting with the other kids."
"But what abou-"
"No, not even if they got to the swing before you did."
"Awww. What about-"
"No kicking of sand in anyone's face."
Lanna frowned for a moment. "Fine. I'll behave. Now can we please go to the playground?"
"Go fetch your sister first." Penny said after staying quiet for a while.
Lanna nodded as she ran towards the kitchen where the smell of cookies seemed to have begun emanating from. Penny turned to Callison. "You do have a way with children, huh."
"Nah, not really." Callison checked her phone and saw that there was a message from a recent contact. Before she can read it, Penny snatched the phone from her hands.
"Goldilocks?" Penny raised an eyebrow. "Who's this?"
"He sent a message to me?" Callison asked as her eyes widened.
"Who's he? Don't leave me in the dark here. Is this guy your new boyfriend or something?" Penny crossed her arms.
Callison took her phone back from her friend. "Heck no, Penny. He's just the one who escorted me home."
"What? How long have you known this guy?" Penny asked suspiciously. "How did he even know that you're going to need to be escorted home? And don't you find it a little weird that he was at the right place, at the right time?"
